P1a’s weekly news

We have had another busy week in P1a. We have been learning 2 new sounds this week, p for pig and n for nest. We have really enjoyed doing the jolly phonics actions and songs for these sounds. Everyone managed to make the sounds on magnetic and whiteboards, and then wrote the sounds in our jotters. Mrs Gordon can’t believe how well we can form our letters!

In numeracy we were learning about number 3 and 4, we found those quite tricky to write! In maths we learnt about 2D shape.  We had great fun doing a shape hunt around the classroom.

We had our first French lesson this week with our friend Camembear! We loved seeing him and learnt to say bonjour and au revoir. We also were able to reply to “Comment t’appelles tu?” , “Je m’appelle…” with our names. Bravo!

Bon weekend from Mrs Gordon and P1a

Dates for the diary – P1 Curriculum Evening Wed 18th Sept 6pm P1 Classroom

Camembert the Bear’s visit to P1B

Another busy week in P1, we are learning so much and making lots of progress.

In Phonics we have be learning the sounds p and n. We learned the Jolly phonics song, found the letters on magnetic letter boards, drew pictures of things that begin with p and n and had a go at forming the letters.

p – down the pirate’s plait and over the pirate’s face

n- down Nobby, back up Nobby and over his net

We even had a go at writing some words using the sounds – Mrs Bell was very impressed!

In Numeracy we have been learning about the numbers 2, 3 and 4. We found forming 2 and 3 quite tricky but we will keep practising. We also learned about 2D shapes – circles, squares, triangles and rectangles. We went on a shape hunt around our classroom:

On  Thursday we met Camembert the bear who is visiting us from France. He was a little bit shy as he doesn’t speak any English. We had to speak to him in French! We learned  how to say ‘hello’ and ‘my name is…’

Some photos of outdoor fun, reading to our friends and writing our names:

Admin for next week:

Thank you to those who handed homework folders in on Thursday. Please send homework folders in if you haven’t already so that we can give out new sounds on Monday.

Have a lovely weekend!

Bunnies, Ants and Tennis in P1a

What a great first full week in P1 for everyone. This week we were very busy getting used to our new routines and activities.

On Monday we had 2 rabbits (battery powered) visit us from the SSPCA. We had to learn all about how to take care of them and did a role play scenario of taking rabbits to the vets. We really enjoyed learning how to hold rabbits properly and being vets!

This week we started our first sounds ‘a’ and ‘t’. We loved the jolly phonics songs of ants on my arm, and when I watch the tennis match. Everyone manged to do their first piece of writing too where we practised the letter formation of a and t. Mrs Gordon was very impressed. We also used the magnetic boards to make our first word – at.

In numeracy we learnt all about numbers 0 and 1. The stories of greedy zero and penguin one helped along the way. We worked hard at forming these numbers too and went on a number hunt looking for them in the classroom.

We did some art this week and made a great display about the three little pigs, this was linked to our construction theme. We have a tuff tray where we can try to build houses out of bricks, straw and sticks for the 3 little pigs.

Happy weekend from Mrs Gordon and P1a.

Phonics, numbers and warm fuzzies in P1B

We made it – our first full week in Primary 1! We are getting very good at our routines and we are SUPER excited about all of our learning!

In Phonics we have been learning our first sounds – a and t. Here is a link to our Phonics song that we sing at the start of every Phonics lesson:

This week we did our first ever piece of work in our jotters. We practised forming a and t correctly.

a – around the apple and down  the leaf

t – down the tower and across the tower

We know to draw our pictures in pencil and take our time to colour inside the lines. Mrs Bell was very impressed with our work!

In Numeracy we have been learning about the number 0 and the number 1. Here is a song we sing to practise counting forwards and backwards to 10:

In Health and well-being we have been learning about one of our school values – kindness. We call kind actions ‘warm fuzzies’ and unkind actions ‘cold pricklies’. We had lots of ideas for how we could give out warm fuzzies, for example – asking someone if they would like to play, smiling at someone and sharing our toys. We talked about cold pricklies such as hitting or using unkind words and how getting a cold prickly makes us feel. We are going to try hard to give out lots of warm fuzzies at school and at home too!

Today some very confident children sat at the front of the class and presented their show and tells. We were a good audience and asked lots of questions.

Have a great weekend when it gets here!

Welcome to the new P1a!

What a fabulous start to P1 for us. We have already learnt so much in just 2 and a half days….

Our main focus this week has been on adjusting to our new environment, class and teacher. We have been learning about the school rules and Mrs Gordon was very impressed with how quickly we are following those rules.

We had a tour of the school and learnt where important places like the office and the lunch hall were.

We have been on a secret mission making some things for a time capsule that we will open at the end of P1, we will have to keep you in suspense until June next year…

Our buddies have been a fantastic help this week. They have helped us play at break and lunchtimes and have helped us collect and tidy away our lunch. We also had buddy time today which we will have each week. This week we did outdoor play which was a lot of fun.

We also had some fun with Cosmic Yoga on Thursday. Everyone joined in and really enjoyed imagining being under the sea.

Next week we will continue to learn about the values of our school and become more independent as we go for break and lunch on our own.

Happy weekend, Mrs Gordon and P1a

Welcome to Primary 1B!

A very warm welcome to all of the new Primary 1 children who have started at Springfield Primary this week! We are all settling in well and enjoying exploring our new classroom. Mrs Bell says we are all stars!

P1a weekly news

Well we are getting ready to move on to Primary 2 and met our new teacher Miss Muir on Thursday afternoon. We really enjoyed getting to know her. We also met our P2 pals and had fun playing outside with them. They will be our buddies during P2.

In numeracy we have been revising our numbers to 20 and doing more practise with counting in 2’s and 3’s and odd and even numbers. Next week we will do our numbers to 20 assessment to see what we can remember.

In literacy we were looking at poetry and rhyming. We are reading poetry books in class and looking out for rhyming words. We are writing our weekend diary each week and are really improving the length and quality of our sentences.

In PE Mrs Gordon got out the wall bars and we had great fun climbing up them and trying out the monkey bars.

We had our last NYCOS (National Youth Choir of Scotland ) session this week, and we have absolutely loved singing, playing games and learning rhymes and rhythm.

Happy weekend and good luck to everyone that is in the Gala Day!

Mrs Gordon and P1a.

P1B – Week ending 21st June

In Literacy this week we have continued to work on our diary writing skills and tricky word spelling.  We worked on our listening and talking skills too, sharing what we had done at The Marches and talking about what we were looking forward to on Gala Day.  It’s fair to say we are excited about Gala Day!

In Numeracy we continued our learning on writing our numbers up to 20 in words.  We have also continued to practise counting up and down in 2s and progressed to counting up and down in 3s.  In Maths we completed our Data Handling lessons, learning about a new way to sort information using Carroll Diagrams.  You can see an example of these by following this link –http://resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk/VTC/carroll_diagrams/eng/introduct/default.htm.

We met our P2 buddies this week and had great fun playing with them with the outdoors toys in the playground.

We enjoyed our final session with our specialist from the National Youth Choir of Scotland.  We continued to work on keeping the beat and using our listening skills to identify where sounds were coming from.  We also had fun again playing parachute games.

On Thursday we visited our new P2 classroom and met Miss Harrison.  We heard a story about a cautious caterpillar and drew a picture of our favourite part of the story.  We really enjoyed spending time with Miss Harrison and chatting to her about P2.

Have a lovely weekend.  Only 1 week left!

This Week’s News at Springfield and Bonnytoun

Mrs Burton and P2B led a super assembly today on the recreational activities that can be undertaken in Linlithgow. We all enjoyed listening to the children deliver information in a grown-up and highly articulate way. Super work from all!

Earlier on this week, we had a special talk about Marches Day from the Linlithgow  Dyers who take part in the Marches procession each year.

Thank you so much to the PTA who successfully ran their summer discos in school last night. The PTA have made a fantastic contribution to school funds over the past session through their various events and we are very grateful.

Pupil Achievements:

-A huge ‘well done’ to C in P1 for success in swimming and to K in P1 for her Enjoy-a-Ball achievment! Great effort girls!

Please remember that school and nursery will be closed next Tuesday, (18th) for Marches Day.

Pupil reports will be sent home in school bags next Friday, (21st). Nursery reports will be sent home from next Friday onwards.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Miss Baillie xx💖💫

P1B – Week ending 14th June

In Literacy this week we have been working on rhyme.  We read the Julia Donaldson story, Room on the Broom, and had fun filling in missing rhyming words in the story.  We worked together to find matching pairs of rhyming words and choose some of these pairs to write some super sentences.

We were very lucky to have a visit from the author Alan Windrum who came in to share two of his story books with us  – One Button Benny and A Puppy’s Tale.   We had great fun joining in with the story and also sang some songs accompanied by Alan too.

In Numeracy we have been learning how to write numbers up to 20 in words.  We have also continued to practise counting up and down in 2s.  We found some of the number words a bit tricky to read at first but we are beginning to recognise some of these and know that with practise we will get to know all of them.

In PE we had our final Gymnastics lesson with Mrs Harris.  We had to chance to practise all of the techniques we have learned over the past few weeks and had the opportunity to climb the wall bars and also showed our upper body strength as we climbed between the bars.

As part of our Community focus we learned about the environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy.  Inspired by his work, we went outside to find natural resources and, in small groups, we made some super pictures with the things we had found.

We were very lucky that the weather was just about kind enough for us to have Sports Day on Wednesday and Mrs Reid was very impressed with the resilience shown by everyone as, despite the wet and cold, everyone tried their very best to complete the potted sports stations and then run in the class races.  Mrs Reid was ‘delighted’ to get the chance to show the children that it’s the ‘taking part that counts’ when she entered the teachers race!

We enjoyed our second session with our specialist from the National Youth Choir of Scotland.  We successfully kept the beat to a variety of different types of music and used our listening skills to identify where sounds were coming from.  We came up with ‘loud’ and ‘quiet’ actions and had great fun using the actions within songs.

We have been busy making something special for Father’s Day too.  The children were excited to tell Mrs Reid the reasons they loved their daddies.  We hope you like our work!

Have a lovely weekend.  We can’t believe there are only 2 weeks of Primary 1 left!
