It’s been a very busy week in nursery! The school photographer was here on Monday and Tuesday and hopefully now you all have had your child’s proof photos home. Please return these to nursery as soon as possible or alternatively follow the instructions on the letter to have them sent directly to you at home.

We welcomed Mrs Gray from NYCOS on Monday who came along to take the children for some music and movement activities. This week she worked with the blue, green, grey and yellow groups, who will also work with her next Monday. The following two Mondays after will be the turn of the orange, purple, pink and red groups.

Monday was also our monthly Stay, Play and Learn sessions. Thank you to everyone who came along, we hope you had fun.

We are continuing our Superheroes topic. We are looking for any of our parents (or any relatives you may have) that have a job where you rescue or help others. If you have any spare time to come along and chat to the children about your work, we’d love to hear from you. Please see a member of staff if you can help in any way.

The children have been discovering lots of interesting things about rescue vehicles using ICT and have noticed differences in the colours of vehicles in different countries. Furthermore they have had lots of fun making their own rescue vehicles with the small construction.

The children had the opportunity to watch some ‘rescue’ clips and from this we had lots of discussions about  ‘heroes’. This then led to children talking about costumes and masks worn by superheroes and they have enjoyed making their own masks, which we will continue next week.

Gemma’s words will continue from last week with the addition of disguise, please feel free to comment  if your child is using the words , by using the post it notes in the cloakroom and giving to a staff member or popping in the suggestion box.

Please note the photographer will be visiting the nursery on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th February (am and pm sessions).

Our next ‘Stay Play and Learn’ session is on Monday 19th February and we look forward to seeing you then.

The children have been engaged in making their own constructions using large and small wooden bricks during their super hero play. We are encouraging children to use digital technologies to photograph their work. You can also take photographs of their creations at home and share them with us in the Learners Journals.

To further extend Gemma’s words (see below) we will be looking at the positive role of Firefighters, Police officers and Doctors and others who help us. Listen out for your child talking about these everyday HEROES and let us know about these situations.  You could leave a post it note on our planning wall and we can then discuss this further with the children.

Hoping everyone has an enjoyable half term break, we look forward to  seeing you all on Wednesday 14th.

Small construction is always popular with our children to further challenge them we have introduced some STEM challenges. The children are also using clay and straws in the art area to construct 3D shapes and make their own creations. Have a look on line as you can also do these challenges at home and bring some different ideas into nursery.

The children have been doing some great problem solving while making tents, caves etc in the Loose Parts Play corner.

A reminder of our February holiday.All break on Friday 9^th and return on Wednesday 14^th.

The Children at Simpson nursery class have had another busy week. The Children have been taking responsibility by being Eco monitors. Every week different children are chosen to be an Eco monitor. They each have a different responsibility. We have a water monitor, light monitor, blue bin monitor and a food bin monitor.  Please ask your child if they have been one, you can also check by looking on our Eco monitor wall in the cloak room.

On Thursday we celebrated ‘Burns day’. All the Children took part in having our own Burns supper which most of them enjoyed. As part of our learning we looked at Scottish books, tartan and Scottish food. There is a display of all our art work in the nursery. Please have a look at our paintings of Scottish coos.

The staff is continually observing the Children and have heard and witnessed lots of ‘Super hero’ play. Hopefully we will be starting a floorbook next week on this topic. Watch this space….
