Another #SPSSnowDay

Happy World Book Day!

All P6 pupils should continue to access the variety of Numeracy, Reading and Spelling activities allocated in the Classwork tab of Education City.  The allocated activities can be accessed by clicking on the Snow Day folders, but please explore some of the other areas of the curriculum and activities too.

Since we are not at school to celebrate World Book Day please also visit the website www.worldbookday.com and try out some of the fun activities on here.

It would also be great to see everyone get a little creative in celebration of the the day and send pictures of you reading somewhere a little different.  We had some great examples in the snow yesterday – can we add some more today?  Why not create something in the snow related to one of  your favourite novels or characters?  Or if you’d rather be warm indoors how about creating a model, painting a picture or even baking and decorating a cake along the theme of your chosen book?

We’d love to see your ideas so don’t forget to tweet #SPSSnowDay #SPSLovestoRead

P5b: Suggested Snow Day Activities

Good morning! As we are unable to make it into school today, here are some ideas for activities to keep you busy. Pick a few, keep safe and cosy and have fun!

If you like, you can add pictures of your day to your story on Class Dojo, or tweet them @emmafarmer25, with the hashtag #SPSsnowday.

– Bundle up, go outside and have fun in the snow – if the snow abates for long enough, you could make a snowman, an igloo, or even a Viking longship!

– Take measurements of the snow throughout the day and record your measurements. Write down the time and the measurement as accurately as you can.

– Practise your 7, 8 and 9 times tables.

– Play a board game.

– Choose a window, pull up a seat and sketch a snowy scene.

– Get cosy and read a good book! (This is my favourite one!)

– Work on your World Book Day t-shirt or hat design.

– Explore some Viking myths and legends here:

Choose one, listen carefully and write a newspaper article, poem, song, script or comic to retell it.

– Log on to Study Ladder for a variety of assigned activities across the curriculum.

– Log on to Sumdog to practise numeracy skills.

Snow Day Activities

Primary 6 teachers will allocate activities on Education City to allow children to continue with their learning whilst at home during the winter weather.

Children are also encouraged to take the opportunity to use the time to read their personal novels as part of our First Minister’s Reading Challenge and be prepared to share what they have read on our return to class.

Please check back for further updates which will also be shared via Twitter and Class Dojo.
