P3 Drama – A (virtual) trip to the zoo

This week’s drama is based around the animals at Edinburgh Zoo. Have a look at the videos of some of the animals on the zoo’s website here

The page looks like this and each section contains a video you can watch.

After watching each video, pretend to be that animal. When pretending to be the animals think about

  • How they move. Do they move on 2 or 4 feet? Or fly? Or swim? Or climb?
  • What their faces look like.
  • What noises they make?
  • Anything else interesting they do.

Other activities

  • watch the live webcams to see what the animals are up to! https://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/webcams/panda-cam/
  • Study the map of the zoo. Can you find the toilets? Where would you go if you were hurt? What animals would you visit? Where  would you park the car?

  • Can you make your own map of your local area? You could include places like your home, school, Granny/Grandad’s house or tesco.

The Rainbow Fish – P3 Drama

As yesterday was World Oceans Day, I thought we would have an ocean themed drama activity this week.

 

The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister is a lovely story about friendship, sharing and being an individual. Listen to the story here

then try out some of these drama activities.

Drama Activities 

  • Pretend you are the Rainbow fish swimming past all the other fish, ignoring them. What will your face look like? How will your body move?
  • The Little Blue Fish asks the Rainbow fish to have one of his special, shiny scales. Pretend to be him asking for the scales. What would you say to convince him?
  • Imagine you are the Little Blue Fish after he is finally given one of the shiny scales. Show his excitement swimming back and forth, whizzing through the ocean.
  • The Rainbow Fish soon realises  how happy he feels sharing his special scales. Show him sharing his scales and then happily playing and swimming with the other fish.

To Infinity and Beyond – P3 Drama

On Saturday a spaceship took off in America headed for space. You can watch the launch here.

Drama Activities 

Imagine you are an astronaut headed on this mission. Act out the following –

  • Pack a bag to take with you into space – what will you bring? You can use props.
  • It’s the morning of your mission. Get dressed in your space suit – you will need a helmet, a spacesuit and space boots. Is it easy to move in? Try to walk about the room.
  • You are sitting in the space rocket (with your seat belt on of course!) and the countdown begins. 10, 9, 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0!! The rocket takes off. What would you say? What will your face and body look like?
  • The rocket is now in space. There is no gravity in space so you are very light (your feet don’t stay on the ground!). Show how you would move about.

P3 Drama – Harry the Dirty Dog

This week’s drama activities are based on the book Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion. 

Harry hates having a bath!Listen to the story to find out what happens when his family try to give him one….

Pretend to be Harry and  try out some of these drama activities

  • burying the scrubbing brush in the back garden
  • running away from home

 

  • getting dirty by playing in the street, playing at the railroad, playing with the other dogs and going down the coal chute

 

  • FREEZE FRAME (like a still picture) what Harry looked like when his family didn’t recognise him.

 

  • showing his family his tricks (flip flopping, rolling over, dancing and singing)

 

  • digging in the garden to find the scrubbing brush

 

  • having fun in the bath while the children are scrubbing him

 

  • sleeping peacefully in his favourite place

Now pretend you are one of the children. Pretend you are phoning (or face timing) a friend and tell them all about Harry’s adventures? Think about…….What happened? Where did it happen? Who did it happen to? Why did it happen?
