  3. First, watch the PowerPoint “Fantastic Flowers.”
  4. Can you remember the parts of the flower?
  5. To remind you ;

Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AuVm1jpKEA

  1. Now complete the activity sheet “Parts of a Flower.”
  2. Did you manage to do that?
  3. Now see if you can use the sheet “Putting Together a Flower” or you could make up your own sheet.

Next week we will be looking at how you plant melon seeds so if you could get a melon for next week that would be great. If you can’t get a melon, any fruit would do. We will be planting next week!

SCIENCE Primary 2/1

Hello everyone! It looks like it is going to be a nice, bright day. Remember to get out and enjoy it – even if you have to wrap up a bit!

Sorry this lesson is a bit late getting posted as I have been in school this week looking after key worker’s children.

So here is you lesson for this week.

Week 4-14.05.20        PLANTS

This week we will be looking at the parts of a plant and the jobs they do.

These are the resources you will need:

1. PPT PARTS of a PLANT

2. PARTS OF A PLANT cut n’ stick

3. PAIRS GAME

  1. Firstly, do you remember what it takes to grow a healthy plant?
  2. Now we are going to look at the parts of a plant and the job they do.
  3. You will need to watch the PowerPoint and use the resources above.
  4. Follow the instructions on the PowerPoint.

N.B. When you are doing the “Parts of a Plant” activity, you only need to use sheets 1 and 2. Sheets 3 and 4 need only be discussed.

Next week we will look at the parts of a flower.

SCIENCE Primary 2/1

Hello everyone! Mrs. Macandrew here. I hope you are all well and managing to get outside a bit and enjoy looking at all the signs that Spring is here. There are lots of new leaves on trees, little flowers and lots of twittering birds.

Here is this week’s lesson.

Week 2       PLANTS              Primary 2/1

This week we will be looking at the parts of a plant and deciding what the plant needs to grow big and strong.

You will need these resources.

What Does A Healthy Plant Need

The Growth of a Plant

  1. Firstly, do you remember what a plant needs?
  2. Plants need light, water, air and soil.
  3. How do we know how much of each of these things the plant needs?
  4. Watch the PowerPoint above. It is called “What Does a Plant Need?”
  5. After you have watched the PowerPoint, complete the activity called “The Growth of a Plant.”
  6. After you have finished, can you draw a beautiful, healthy plant? Use some nice, bright colours.
  7. Next week we will be looking at what the different parts of a plant are and the jobs they do.

Have a lovely week!

SCIENCE with Mrs. Macandrew

Hello everyone! Hope you are all well.

This week we will be looking at Sustainable (Renewable) Energy and Non Sustainable Energy sources.

  1. We have found out about Sound Energy, Energy produced by wind, water, the sun, Nuclear Energy and Energy made from Fossil Fuels.
  2. But which types of Energy are Renewable/Sustainable?
  3. Look at PowerPoint No. 1 “Renewable and Non-renewable resources”
  4. Do the cut & stick activity. RENEWABLE or NOT
  5. Now watch PowerPoint No. 2 about Sustainability.
  6. Can you draw a poster to help people remember to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE?
  7. Remember to use lovely bright colours and lots of pictures.

  1. RENEWABLE or NOT
  2. PPT 2 Sustainability-powerpoint questions.
  3. PPT 1 Renewable and non-renewable

Primary 2/1 SCIENCE

Hi there everyone! Mrs. Macandrew here. As I won’t be seeing you this week, here are the things we were going to talk about.

Fossil Fuels and Nuclear Energy

Wow whoever you are with – tell them what about what you already know about Energy! What does Energy do? Can you name any forms of Energy?

Do you remember what “Sustainable” and “Renewable” Energy means?

Today we are going to be looking at Fossil Fuels and Nuclear Energy

  1. Some Electricity is created by Nuclear energy. It is the energy stored inside some materials. Scientists have learned how to capture large amounts of energy from these forces that can then be used to generate electricity.
  2. Some Energy is created by using what we call Fossil Fuels. These are Coal, Oil and Natural Gas.
  3. Watch Fossil Fuels 101
  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iubWN1cnwIs
  5. Watch the PowerPoint attached called “Energy Experts,” including doing the survey.
  6. Energy Experts
  7. Discuss your findings and your ideas with someone at home.
  8. Could you be saving Energy? How?
  9. To go over again – Can you name the three forms of Fossil Fuels?
  10. Next week – Non-Sustainable energy versus Sustainable Energy?

Have fun! See you here next week!

Walking Water

P3A have been working hard at getting to know each other. We have been working in different types of teams and evaluating what works best. We have been taking on different roles and responsibilities.

In science this week, we focused on observation skills. Everyone in the team had a role. We used water and food colouring for our walking water experiment. Here were the results …

We learned a lot from this experiment and really enjoyed it too. Why don’t you ask us all about it and we can share what we learned?

Thanks for your continued support,

p3A and miss McGregor.
