Watch out for the P6 Spitfire Pilots :)

Miss Moir was very lucky to be given an actual Spitfire pilot helmet from a close family friend. Miss Moir’s friends father was a Spitfire Pilot during the Second World War and he had kept his helmet. Although the class felt it smelled a little (due to it being made of real leather and it’s age) they really enjoyed trying it on.

Here are some snaps of the class….(these will definitely be kept for their p7 leavers assembly ๐Ÿ™‚ )

P6 Basketball and Hockey Tournement

On Thursday 17th of March, P6 took part in their cluster Basketball and Hockey Tournament with Balbardie, Simpsons and Boghall Primary School. The children were split into teams and played several games of each throughout the morning, playing against a variety of different teams.

At the end of the morning the children were told the results and team Murrayfield 2 won Silver for the Basketball!!! Miss Moir was thrilled to bits for them. We also were given a certificate for taking part ๐Ÿ™‚ and having lots of fun.

The children were a credit to Murrayfield Primary School and had a fantastic morning.

P6 and P7 Topic Box-WW2

On Tuesday 15th of March P6 and P7 were visited by a fantastic topic box for WW2. The children were given an excellent talk from Maureen who talked about rationing, evacuees and some real life people living during the 1940’s. The children got to look at and touch different items and see a real wireless which was very interesting. The children were particularly shocked by the rationing and the amount of chocolate you were allowed a week! Miss Moir wouldn’t cope ๐Ÿ™‚

P6 Trip to Edinburgh :)

Hi everyone,

P6 had a wonderful day in Edinburgh yesterday as part of their WW2 topic. We visited Edinburgh castle and took part in a WW2 experience and then where taken on a short tour of the Scots Guard. The WW2 experience allowed the children to try on authentic clothing from the 40’s, learn about 4 people who lived during the war and explore the different objects, toys and general equipment people used. It was really good fun and the children learned a lot about what life was like during WW2.

We then headed down The Royal Mile to Chamber Street Museum where we went to the Lego exhibit. The children played with some Lego, saw the fantastic models and watched someone build a replica of the museum. He reckoned it would take around 80,000 Lego bricks to build it! Wow!

A fabby day was had by all…here are some photos to see for yourselves ๐Ÿ™‚

P6 News :)

Hello everyone,

We have had another fun filled week with our learning and had a super day on Thursday with a Book Day themed Masterclass. My Masterclass was based on The BFG and we learned about the different characters, the plot of the story and we created our own dream jars for a display for the main hall. The children really enjoyed themselves, as did the teachers.

In P6 we have been continuing with our multiplication in numeracy, and have been focusing on evacuation through our WW2 topic. We also started our class novel “Goodnight Mister Tom,” which is already proving to be a very thought provoking and wonderful story linking with our topic.

Just a little note to add that P6 will be going on their trip on Wednesday the 9th of March (myself and Mrs Cordner are super excited!). Children must wear their school uniforms and please remember their packed lunches if they have requested one from home ๐Ÿ™‚

Also the p6 and P7 assembly date has changed to Friday 15th April to give us more time to pack in more information about WW2.

Thanks for reading

News from P6

P6 have had another busy week in class learning through a variety of areas through the curriculum.

We have been focusing on times tables through Numeracy and will be working on this through the Mild, Spicy and Hot open event next Friday. Children will use their problem solving skills to answer the written questions based around multiplication.

In Literacy the children have been looking at Similes and have been creating poems based around describing an imaginative monster. Using the phrase “like,” or “as,” the children have been comparing parts of their monster to similar things such as “fangs as white as snow,” and so on. Some of the Monsters are very creative and I hope the boys and girls can rewrite the poems for a display.

It is the last week of our Europe topic and the boys and girls have been creating holiday brochures for a chosen European country. These will be put up on the classroom display once they are finished for everyone to look at. Their next topic will be WW2 which will start after the February weekend. The class and I can’t wait ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a lovely long weekend!

P6 Presentations

P6 have been working hard on their Europe topic and have created some excellent Powerpoint presentations on festivals and traditions throughout different European countries.

The children have worked in pairs on one specific chosen country, researched on the internet their festivals and traditions and have come up with some very interesting information and facts.

Some children have not quite finished yet but I wanted to share some of these presentations with you so you could see their research and presentation skills through Powerpoint ๐Ÿ™‚

P6 Enterprise

A Great Big Thank You to everyone who has bought a stocking from P6 ๐Ÿ™‚ We have done exceptionally well with selling these stockings. So much soย that we actualy sold out on our first day!

However, do not panic. We will be making more next week and will be selling this batch on Wednesday. Some children have already paid for their stocking, and these will be handed to them on Wednesday as well. This will be the last batch we are making as Christmas is fast approaching and P6 have to get themselves organised for the Christmas Concert ๐Ÿ™‚ Remember they are ยฃ2 each-bargain ifย I do say so myself.

Thank you again for all your support
