Wednesday 13th May P3B

Good morning everyone! I hope you have had a great start to the week.

I’m not sure if anyone noticed but I have allocated you a book on Active Learn, its about the 5 oceans. I thought it might be useful to help you with your research. Here is a song that can help you learn the different oceans.

Has anyone been learning the words for pets in French? Can you guess what animals I have and how many?  I have un chien et deux poisons.

Here is a morning challenge to get everyone awake and ready for the day.

Remember you can send Mr Brice and myself all your hard work! Have a great day.

Story Time From Home – Wednesday 13th May

Hello boys and girls

Today’s Story Time From Home  is all about a polar bear.

https://vimeo.com/417711947

I saw this super website link on Mrs Mills blog page and thought I would share it with you because it has lots of information and pictures  of real bears that you might like to have a look at if you’ve time.

https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/animals-and-nature/bears/

I’ve also made another video today which has nothing to do with bears but is an activity about rainbows which is another theme in today’s story.  The idea for this came from children in my class so why not watch it to find out more…

and have a go!  It’s great fun!

Music Time with Mrs McWhirter

Good morning P 3!

Are you ready to be Sonic Explorers again?

A couple of weeks ago I asked you to explore the sounds of your garden but today I want you to use your musical imagination to explore further away from home!

One of my favourite places to visit is the beach and I’m sure lots of you do too! I want you to think of sounds you might hear on the beach and what instruments you would choose to make those sounds. I would love to see a sound picture of your beach with some instruments in it! If you don’t want to use instruments you can find sounds at home to help. I like the crunchy sound cornflakes make when you shake the packet! It sounds a bit like walking on sand. If you can find some empty,  clean plastic bottles you can try filling them with different materials for different sounds. Try rice or pasta or of course water! You could even try to make a water bottle organ but make sure you ask an adult first!

                               Make a Water Organ

You will need:

  • 4–10 clear glass bottles, same size
  • Water
  • Food colouring
  • Metal or wooden spoon

Instructions

  1. Fill each bottle with water of varying amounts, until different pitches can be heard.
  2. Add a different food colouring to each bottle to identify the ‘notes’.
  3. Hit with a metal or wooden spoon and listen to the different pitches!

After you have made your water organ, line the bottles up in order by water volume (most water on the left, least water on the right).

Play the water organ by gently hitting each bottle with a metal or wooden spoon/stick. Use the instrument to explore pitch (high/low sounds) and dynamics (loud and quiet).

I am sending you the link to Sonic Explorer but watch out because she meets something unexpected on her travels!

P3B Tuesday 12th May

Thanks for those of you who sent me some pictures of your work yesterday. Below are some great pieces about One Button Benny. I look forward to seeing some more today.

A note for you about Sumdog. The activities we published on there are a guide and we are trying to cover a range of interests and abilities. You can choose which ones you feel are most suitable for you.

Yesterday, I had a go at the sock challenge I posted a couple of weeks ago. I think I changed the rules a little. I would love to find out how long it takes you. I placed the washing basket 4 large (adult) steps away. Remember adults need to do 10 pairs of socks and children 5. Younger ones could do it with the socks already paired up. Here’s my attempt. Enjoy!

PS The child laughing at me is Charlotte, and, yes,  I have grounded her as a consequence!

P3A Tuesday 12th May

Good Morning 3A

Well done to those who gave some of the Sumdog challenges a go yesterday.  I hope these are something you enjoy.   🙂

Please remember the activities we give you are suggestions only,   We try to give a variety of tasks to suit everyone’s interests and levels.  I have set two different times table challenges on Sumdog.  I’d say start with x2, x3, x4, x5 and x10 and see how you find it.  Don’t worry if you’re not quite ready for the trickier tables just yet.

Thanks to those who sent emails yesterday.  I enjoyed seeing some French animals, bar charts and lego models.

Since some of 3A tried data handling work yesterday, here’s a game about tally marks you might want to try today.

Have a good day!

P3B Monday 10th May

Good morning,

I’ve had a super busy week since I last checked in with you guys. I’ve been doing some running, we checked out the blossom trees by the Rose Garden, we’ve done some quizzes with family and friends and I watched High School Musical! Here’s a picture of some chalk art we did for VE Day.

Please, check out the school website for some P3 resources for home learning this week.

This week my story is ‘One Button Benny’ which I will post separately. Below are the spelling rules you need to practice this week:

During the week let us know how you are getting on by emailing myself and Miss Ross.

Have a great day,

Mr Brice

P3A Monday 11th May

Good Morning 3A!

I hope everyone had a good weekend and is ready for the week.  I enjoyed time in my garden on Saturday.  I showed my daughter how to play hopscotch, we drew the outline in chalk and painted a stone to use as the marker.  Do any of you enjoy hopscotch? Ask someone at home to show you if you’re not sure how to play.

All of the learning resources you need for Week 6 can be found on the LPS website (link below).  We have planned activities that do not need to be printed off.  You can write in your Home Learning jotter or talk through your answers with someone at home.

It’s great to see so many of the class have now been on Sumdog.  This week you’ll see we have set challenges for P3.  Can you log in and see how you get on with times tables and fractions?  The challenges are live now until Friday 12.25pm.  Good luck!

Story Time from Home – Monday 11th May

Hello everyone and welcome to the Story Time from Home page.

I hope that you had a nice weekend and are looking forward to a week of new stories.  This week’s theme is “bears” and all of this week’s books are from my house collection rather than from those that I keep in school, so chances are you won’t have heard me reading any of these stories before.

Here is the link to Monday’s story which is called “Beware of the Bears” and has a very surprising ending indeed!

3a Friday 8.5.20

Good morning 3a.

Today is a very special day. 75 years since the end of war in Europe. It was called V.E. Day. V.E. stands for Victory in Europe. World War 2 didn’t end on that day because there was still fighting in other parts of the world.

There will be a minute’s silence across the UK today that you and your family might want to participate in.

My father fought in WW2.  First he ran away and joined the Black Watch, but his dad went to the barracks and explained he was only 15 and brought him home again. Later he joined the Household Cavalry, and even though it was the middle of the war, he still had to learn to ride a horse. I’ve posted a photo of his medals below.

My dad and I shared the same name. We’re both called Val Occardi. It’s an Italian name. However, the engraving on the back of the medals is Jock Occardi. Because my dad was Scottish and serving in an English regiment, his army friends only ever called him Jock.

Have a great weekend.
