Good morning P1! Friday 8th May 2020

Good morning P1!

Here is a fun video to start the day off right – you can practise skip counting by 2, 5 and 10 and have a think about odd and even numbers, all while working out and following the instructions.

As we come to the end of another week of home learning, I just want to say a huge well done to all our incredible children for all your hard work these last few weeks and a big thank you to all parents/carers – you are all doing an amazing job!

One of the things that really brightens my day and makes me smile is hearing about all the great outdoorsy, creative, fun things you are doing at home and all the fab family time people are enjoying. I have heard about people camping in the garden, planting flowers and vegetables, taking on art and craft projects, cooking up a storm and inventing games/treasure hunts/quizzes for their families.

What are your plans for this weekend? If the sun stays out, we are going to take Bennie on some nice walks along an old railway track near our flat. We also have to try and give him a bath, which will be very tricky because he HATES water. Usually I end up getting more soaked than he does! Here he is this morning playing with his toys.

Have a fantastic weekend when it comes,

I miss you all very much P1B, I’m so proud of you for working and playing at home and keeping everybody safe,

Mrs Jamieson

Good afternoon P1! Thursday 7th May 2020

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you are enjoying this lovely weather today and have been outside as much as you can. I like sitting at the window in my living room and looking out at the garden – we live in a first floor flat so we are at the perfect height to see right into a big tree where lots of little birds like to come and sit. I think I will have to start looking online to see which type of birds they are, I will let you know if I find out. Have you seen any interesting wildlife recently?

Some of you included some of the nice Spring wildlife you have seen recently in your acrostic poems. Thank you for sending us them – we were so impressed at your creativity and writing skills. Look out for them on twitter tomorrow!

This afternoon I thought I would share a short lesson about measuring length and height with you – there is an activity you could try at home now or on another day.

I hope you have fun doing exploring measure – we would love to hear about any measure related activities you get up to this week.

Take care and enjoy the sun,

Your P1 Teachers

Good Morning Primary 1, Thursday 7th May 2020

Good morning Primary one. I hope you all had a lovely evening and managed to enjoy as much of the sunny weather as possible. I enjoyed painting rocks out in the garden today with my boys and having a picnic dinner outside.

Free Sunshine Cartoon, Download Free Clip Art, Free Clip Art on ...

The sunshine definitely puts a smile on my face and I think today is going to be a nice day again.

While the sun is shining why don’t you go outside and have a look for shadows. A shadow is the dark shape you see behind objects that the sun or light is blocked from. Why not use shadows to do some art work.

Shadow drawing is lots of fun. Pick out some of your favourite toys, put them on a piece of paper and draw round them.  You can line them up or create a scene. Afterwards you can colour them in.

You could also build a tower and see what shadows they create.

Lesson 34 — Learn Phonics: ng - Red Cat Reading

Here is the phonic lesson for today. I know how good you are at thinking of words with your phonic sounds in them in class. I wonder what ones you will think of this week.

Remember that the activities we put up are just suggestions, feel free to do them in different ways.

Keep a look out this afternoon for the post on weight from Miss Jamieson.

Please keep in touch.  Write a comment on here  or send a little email telling us what you have been up to.  Add in a picture if you like. We love to see what you have been doing and love sharing your learning on our school celebrating success posts.

Have a lovely day and stay safe.

Good Afternoon 6th May 2020

Good afternoon boys and girls, and what a sunny afternoon it is! The perfect day to go out into your garden and look for all the signs of Spring to help you with your task. I can hear the birds chirping, see the shining sun and there are lots of lovely flowers all around.

Now watch the lesson (Writing a Spring Poem) below and see if you can write your own acrostic poem. Please remember that we love to see photos of your work, including ones that we can tweet. Have a lovely Spring day and we will see you again tomorrow.

Music Time with Mrs McWhirter

Good morning Primary 1 and 2/1 from Mrs McWhirter. I hope you all had a lovely sunny weekend and are ready to make some music! I have been in my garden and have noticed all the insects and bugs enjoying the flowers and the trees have you? They are all very busy and some look like they are dancing!

I am sending you one of my favourite  dancing songs today all about minibeasts called Grasshopper Hop and hope you enjoy it. How many kinds of insects and bugs can you see in it?  I would like you to listen and then make up a little dance to go with the music. When the same bit of music is repeated you repeat your dance!

Let me know how you get on!

Good morning P1! Wednesday 6th May 2020

Good morning everybody!

We hope you had a lovely long weekend. Let us know in the comments some of the nice things you did this weekend? I made some cookies (chocolate chip and almond) and they were very tasty.

I have attached this week’s learning grid and some resources that you can use to support what we are learning about. Remember – just do what you can and please don’t feel you need to print everything off, you can do these activities verbally or on paper/in your jotter if it is easier! Let us know if we can help with anything.

Good Morning Primary 1, Friday 1st May

Good morning. Hope you all had a lovely evening.

It is the 1st of May already. You have been doing so well at adjusting to home learning. All the teachers are very proud of you!

Again thank you for sending in photos of work that you have been. It is so nice to see so many different ideas and your lovely smiling faces.

I have been busy this week too. My boys did the #DesignYourSuperBear for the John Lewis competition and I couldn’t resist designing my own Super bear too. (Of course I won’t be sending mine into the competition…I’m far too old.)

Did you do a Super bear design?

Remember it is a long weekend so no school on Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we can enjoy some sunshine.

Friday 1st May 2020

Good Morning Primary 1!

I can’t believe it is May already. It looks like we are in for another lovely weekend with some sunshine. I hope that you have all worked hard this week and please keep sending your photos- it makes all the teachers smile.

Miss Jamieson has written lots of very useful information in the post below so please have a look.

I am going to relax this weekend with my family and maybe play some board games. Our favourite is Ludo, do you have a favourite? We will also be busy looking after our new kitten called Ace. He arrived just before lock down and has been taking time to settle in and getting to know his family and furry friends. He is very lively and active and we are having lots of fun with him (maybe not during the night).

Have a lovely holiday weekend and we will be back on Wednesday.

Mrs Menmuir

Good morning P1! Friday 1st May 2020.

Good morning everyone!

Today is a special day because it is the very first day in a new month. Last month was April, can you remember which month comes next? You might have to think back to when we explored calendars or to the months of the year songs that we often sing together.

Here is one of them in case you need a clue:

Remember to check out the school twitter page today to see some of the lovely photos people have been sending us in a celebration ‘Sway’. If you sent me some photos today, thank you so much – we’ll pop them into next week’s celebration ‘Sway’ post so everyone can see your hard work!

Everybody should have a username and password for the SumDog website now, why not have a go at logging in today and explore the site a little.

An important reminder about SumDog is that the first set of games/questions are part of a diagnostic assessment tool that is used to set future learning at the correct level for your child to work at, so please only help children to read the questions, not to answer them, or it will set the level too high for them to play independently!

I hope you have a lovely weekend – remember that Monday and Tuesday are special holiday days. I wonder if anyone is planning a really fun activity for the holiday weekend? Our learning grid and activities for next week will be posted on the blog/website on Wednesday.

Take care and remember – just do what you can and make plenty of time to play!

Miss Jamieson

Good morning!

Good morning, everyone!

Just a quick reminder – Monday 4th May is a school holiday and Tuesday 5th May is an in-set day. These will not be formal learning days.

Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to hearing your news on Wednesday.
