Good morning Primary 1, 21st May 2020

Good morning Primary one. I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday and managed to enjoy some of the lovely weather we had. I spent the day in the garden looking for mini beasts and my boys and I had a teddy bears picnic.

You all know that moving about and keeping active is good for your body, whether it is running, jumping, playing football or any other exercise. But do you know what parts of your body you are using when you move and do these activities?

Under our skin we have a skeleton and we have muscles. We have so many muscles that all help our bodies do so many different things.  Here is a little video to explain how they work.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zj2kjxs

What muscles do you know? With a grown up, have a chat about the muscles we have in our body and what ones you think you use when you do different sports.

Even superheroes need to use their muscles to stay strong, so here are a couple of superhero exercise activities to do to keep you active and build up the strength in your muscles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvMbkw2572k

This superhero exercise sheet talks about action verbs. A verb is a  doing words, an action word like jump or walk. Some of them are tricky but can you talk to a grown up and think about which word in each activity you think is the action?

Superhero_Action_Verb_Challenge_Freebie2

I tried a few of the actions. Can you guess which ones?

Why don’t you try some superhero yoga and see what muscles you use during it.

We have all been so impressed at the work you have been doing at home. We know how strange this situation is and want you to know how much we miss seeing you all. All the teachers want you to know that we think you are all stars!

Have a lovely day Primary one and remember to stay safe and keep in touch.

Good afternoon Primary 1, 19th May 2020

I hope you are having a good day so far.

Yesterday was my dog Mylo had is birthday. He turned 13! We had a little party and gave him some of his favourite treats.

It is so important to keep active. It helps our body and our minds.

Why don’t you make up a little exercise challenge with the letters of your name. Have a think of exercises that start with the first letters of your name. If you are stuck ask and adult for help or you could look up different types of exercises.

Try doing each exercise for 10 seconds and then build you the time you do it.

I’m off to try mine. Do you know what all the exercises are?

Have fun!

Happy Friday Primary 1, 15th May 2020

Another week of home learning done and what a brilliant job you have done primary one. I have been so impressed with all of your hard work and absolutely love seeing what you have been up to, as well as your smiling faces in some of the photos. This is a very strange time that we are going through and all the teachers are missing you very much.

It has been a busy week in my house with school work and games. Today we are going to make some smoothies.

Yesterday my boys and I did the rainbow science experiment. It was very exciting watching the rainbow grow.  Have you tried it?

We also have a new routine after dinner in our house. We keep an eye out of our kitchen or livingroom window, because we have had a visitor come to the back of our garden.

This gorgeous fox has been coming into our back garden almost every night for the past month and last night there were 2 of them! I couldn’t get a picture of the other one because it hid behind a tree. I think it is maybe camera shy. They are beautiful animals and just wander around having a nosy around. We make sure we are nice and quiet though so we don’t scare them.

You and the grown ups at home are doing such a fantastic job! Well done to you all!

Keep up the brilliant work and stay in touch.

Sending big proud hugs.

Stay safe and have a lovely weekend.

Good Morning Primary 1, Thursday 14th May 2020

Good morning primary one. I hope you have been having a good week so far.  I have really enjoyed seeing all the different pieces of work you have been sending us. I am very impressed.

Today we are going to look at writing a recipe. A recipe is a form of instructional writing, that means that the writing in it is going to help someone to do or make something.

I have done my example recipe on porridge, because just like Goldilocks and the bears, I love porridge. You can choose to write about making porridge too or choose a different recipe.

You can use the template provided or you can create your own.

For your ingredients you can put the weights beside. Practice your weighing skills at the same time.

Good morning Primary 1, Monday 11th May 2020

Good morning everybody!

We hope you had a lovely weekend. Did you do anything exciting?Leave a wee comment to tell us what you got up to. I had a lovely time planting vegetables with my boys and doing some baking. We made scones and shortbread, two of my favourites.

This week we are starting to look at Fairytales.

Our first story is Goldilocks and the three bears.

I have attached this week’s learning grid and some resources that you can use to support what we are learning about. Do what you can and please remember you don’t need to print everything off. You can do these activities verbally or on paper/in your jotter if it is easier! Let us know if we can help with anything.

These activities are just a guide. Please feel free to do your own ideas as well. We would love to see what you come up with to do with this weeks story.

Good morning Primary 1, Friday 8th May

Good morning Primary one. It is Friday again and the sun is trying hard to come out to see us.

Over the past 6 weeks of home learning, you have all impressed us so much with the activities you have been doing at home. It has been lovely receiving emails and comments with photos of your work or telling us what you have been doing. Also the little messages saying hello! We miss you all very much so hearing from you during the week really brightens up our days.

I have been busy at home with my boys. They have been doing lots of different activities suggested by their teachers but we have also been doing a lot of different things. This week we have played badminton, painted rocks, baked cakes and made a tent in the garden. Our favourite thing we did was make s’mores. They were delicious.

I am excited it is the weekend, so I thought a little dance was in order.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23VdtT0vQUY

Keep up the wonderful work, play lots and enjoy this time making memories with your family.

Hopefully the sunshine comes out properly and we can enjoy some nice weather this weekend.

Good Morning Primary 1, Thursday 7th May 2020

Good morning Primary one. I hope you all had a lovely evening and managed to enjoy as much of the sunny weather as possible. I enjoyed painting rocks out in the garden today with my boys and having a picnic dinner outside.

Free Sunshine Cartoon, Download Free Clip Art, Free Clip Art on ...

The sunshine definitely puts a smile on my face and I think today is going to be a nice day again.

While the sun is shining why don’t you go outside and have a look for shadows. A shadow is the dark shape you see behind objects that the sun or light is blocked from. Why not use shadows to do some art work.

Shadow drawing is lots of fun. Pick out some of your favourite toys, put them on a piece of paper and draw round them.  You can line them up or create a scene. Afterwards you can colour them in.

You could also build a tower and see what shadows they create.

Lesson 34 — Learn Phonics: ng - Red Cat Reading

Here is the phonic lesson for today. I know how good you are at thinking of words with your phonic sounds in them in class. I wonder what ones you will think of this week.

Remember that the activities we put up are just suggestions, feel free to do them in different ways.

Keep a look out this afternoon for the post on weight from Miss Jamieson.

Please keep in touch.  Write a comment on here  or send a little email telling us what you have been up to.  Add in a picture if you like. We love to see what you have been doing and love sharing your learning on our school celebrating success posts.

Have a lovely day and stay safe.

Good Morning Primary 1, Friday 1st May

Good morning. Hope you all had a lovely evening.

It is the 1st of May already. You have been doing so well at adjusting to home learning. All the teachers are very proud of you!

Again thank you for sending in photos of work that you have been. It is so nice to see so many different ideas and your lovely smiling faces.

I have been busy this week too. My boys did the #DesignYourSuperBear for the John Lewis competition and I couldn’t resist designing my own Super bear too. (Of course I won’t be sending mine into the competition…I’m far too old.)

Did you do a Super bear design?

Remember it is a long weekend so no school on Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we can enjoy some sunshine.

Good Morning Primary 1 – Thursday 30th April 2020

Good morning everyone. I hope you had a nice afternoon and evening.

With the weather not being quite as nice at the moment, why not try some exercises indoors. Why not work with a grown up to make up your own set of challenges. Choose 6 activities, write them on a piece of paper, roll a dice and that will choose what exercise you do.

What will you put into your challenge? Can you make up any of your own new moves?

Or why not make up a dance routine to one of your favourite songs? Have a go at this dance routine to help inspire you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhfkYzUwYFk

I have been busy at home with my boys. Like all of you, they have been busy doing lots of activities. My boys and I love to draw and do craft activities so we decided to make an egg carton into some flowers.

If you have an egg box that is being thrown out, why not make some flowers too. Decorate them with nice bright colours. Pens, crayons or paint work best.

My boys actually delivered them to their Grandma’s doorstep to cheer her up.

Lastly, thank you for the messages and pictures you have sent. It is so nice seeing everything you are doing and seeing how hard you are all working.  Although it is hard not seeing your smiling faces each day, you are making us all very proud.

Again, if you have any questions, please get in touch.

Keep up the fantastic work! Have a lovely day!

Good Afternoon, 27th April 2020

Hello Primary 1,

What beautiful weather we had at the weekend. Hopefully you all managed to get out in it for a while and had a nice weekend.

I hope you have had a good day so far.

Here are a few activities you can try.

Why not try math drop. You need a piece of paper, pencil and some coins. Draw circles on the paper and write numbers in the sections.  Drop the coins onto the paper (be gentle, you don’t want too many run away coins), then add up the numbers.

If that is too easy use three coins or make the numbers bigger.

Or give scribble art a go.

Draw a scribble on a piece of paper and see what you can turn it into, or swap scribbles with someone in your family and see what you both come up with.

A lovely activity you could do is the John Lewis Teddy Bear design competition.  #designyoursuperbear

HAPPY FRIDAY, 24th April 2020

Good Morning everyone,

I can’t believe it is Friday already! Thank you so much for your emails, photos and comments. I have been missing you all so have really enjoyed seeing all the different activities you have been getting up to, they put a big smile on my face. It looks like everyone has been working very hard and making wonderful memories at home.

Remember that any of the activities that we suggest, do not need to be printed, they are just ideas and can be written in your jotter or even outside. Make learning as fun and active as you can.

Please keep sending me pictures of what you have been up to or just a message to say hello.

We are all proud of all the work you have been doing.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather! My boys and I are going to have a picnic dinner tonight and have a sack race.

Keep safe and looking forward to hearing from you next week.

Mrs Chisholm 🌈

What emotion?

I know how good Primary one are at playing the drama emotion game and pass the smile, so why don’t you show your family how to play.

Use those wonderful facial expressions to show different emotions. Will you be happy, angry, sad or excited? Can you use your body to show the emotion too? When would you feel these emotions? What would happen to  make you feel this way?

There are some great emotion songs you could sing along with too.

To practise some calm and relaxation you could also try some Cosmic kids yoga to The hungry Caterpillar.

Remember to keep sending in your photos of some of the learning you have been doing at home.  We love seeing all of the activities you have been getting up to!

Have a lovely day!

Primary one Teachers

Good Morning Primary one

I hope you had a good day yesterday and enjoyed doing World Earth day activities.

We hope that you have been staying active during your time at home and making the most of the lovely sunshine we have been having.

Why not try practising your throwing and catching today. Try passing an object back and forth with a grown up or a sibling. If you start to find it easy, move further apart to make it trickier.

Or why not try the bucket toss. Roll up some socks and throw them into a bucket. How many can you get in in a row?  You could also make it harder by throwing them into a smaller hole. I used an old cardboard box to make a bunny toss. Remember don’t give up if you find it hard, keep going!

What other throwing and catching games can you think of?

Have fun!

Primary one Teachers

Welcome back everyone 🌈

Welcome back to term 4. I hope you have had a nice relaxing Easter break and ready to get started. I definitely enjoyed seeing the sunshine and eating a few Easter eggs. 😊

I have also enjoyed seeing all the beautiful rainbows in windows as we have been out for  our daily walk.
Do you have one in your window? Why not share it with us. If you haven’t done one, maybe you could make one this week.
Be creative in your ideas.

Here is mine. 🌈

On your next walk, try to count how many rainbows you see!

Have a good first day back. Get in touch with any questions.
