Having lots of fun teaching and learning with P2/1!

Story Time from Home – Thursday 3oth April

Hello boys and girls

Here is the link to Thursday’s story which today includes all of the Oxford Reading Tree f.amily.

Well done to everyone who has had a go at making the puppets that I mentioned on Monday’s video.  The weather isn’t looking quite so nice today ( it is actually raining in Bathgate this morning) so maybe you could have some time away from the tablets and ipads and try some puppet making ?

One of the children made puppets of her family rather than BIff and Chip which i thought was a great idea. You can see the photograph below.

Have fun whatever you do!

P2/1 – Wednesday 29th April

Hello P2/1

Hope that you are all well!

Thank you so much to everyone that sent me superhero photographs yesterday – you are looking fantastic!

Now I am going to be honest here and tell you about something that I saw on Mrs Herbison’s blog yesterday that I thought you might like too!  It is a competition to design a superbear and it is being organised by a big shop called John Lewis.

This is what it says

Children of Britain are invited to share their designs to create a “super-bear”’ cuddly toy using #DesignYourSuperBear to be sold at Christmas – with 100% of the profits going to the NHS.

Here is the link and more information if you would like to take part.

https://www.johnlewispartnership.co.uk/media/press/y2020/jl-and-wr-launch-soft-toy-design-competition.html

Now like Mrs Herbison has said on her blog, you could still have a go at designing a superbear even if you don’t want to take part in the competition.

You could even send your photographs of your bears to me.

And here is the link to a short video of the Pied Piper of Hamelin which today’s story is based on.  I don’t think that this is the same video that we watched and discussed in class.

This is not my favourite Biff, Chip and Kipper story but I wonder what you think?

Have a good day and remember just do your best!

P2/1 – Tuesday 28th April

Hello everyone

Today is National Superhero Day! Now actually I felt a bit sad this morning, not just because the weather is not very nice but because as you know I love dressing up and one costume I don’t have is – a superhero one.

However you don’t have to wear a special costume or have magical powers to be a Superhero.  Often it can be little things that you do for people that can make a big difference. Just now there are lots of superheroes helping to keep us safe in lots of different ways.

I am sure that like me lots of you are going outside on Thursdays at 8 o’clock to clap and say thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff who are looking after people that are unwell.

Lots of your grown ups are all still having to work too as well as now being your teachers at  home. This makes them my superheroes because they are helping me to do my job – so a big THANK YOU from me. I know you are all doing a fantastic job from the amazing photos and messages that you send and I really appreciate your help (and creativity!)

Maybe you can celebrate Superhero day by trying to find a way that you could help someone at home.  And if you do have a Superhero costume why not wear it today and send me a photo?

You can find some more fun Superhero ideas if you follow this link.

Story Time From Home – Friday 24th April

Good morning everyone from sunny Bathgate! Hope it’s a nice day in Linlithgow too.

Here is the link to the last of this week’s dragon stories. Please make sure that you watch right to the end as I had to add a little bit on!

https://vimeo.com/411167888/249f1eb2d9

I think my favourite story  this week has been Dragon Stew but I did feel very sorry for the dragon when the Vikings were poking and hurting him.  At least he got his own back in the end.

Please check Twitter later today for this week’s awesome achiever’s.  You’ll need to use your really good looking skills as remember I can’t include and names or photographs of your lovely faces!

Stay safe and enjoy the weekend.

Story Time from Home – Thursday 23rd April

Hello everyone! Did you find the connection between today and a dragon story? If you were at school in England you would probably know this because St George is the special saint of England just like St Andrew is our special saint here in Scotland. Another name for this is the patron saint. I wonder if you can find out any other patron saints?

Below is a link to a short video all about St George and the dragon which I think you might enjoy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YuVzOK89EA

And here is the link to today’s story time from home which is all about dragons. I hope that you enjoy this too and have started to think about what you could write for your own dragon stories.

Below is a photograph of some planet Earth crafts that some boys made at the hub school in Bathgate with me yesterday.  Don’t they look great?

The words at the bottom say reduce, reuse and recycle.

Thank you again for all your photos and messages. I will share some of these on Twitter at the end of the week but please remember grown ups I can’t post any  photographs with  faces or names.

Story Time from Home – Wednesday 22nd April Earth Day

Here is today’s Story Time from Home link.  I have chosen this story not just because it’s about dragons but because today is  Earth Day and the story is about caring, sharing and working together.

https://vimeo.com/410326790/42f973820b

Below is also a short powerpoint explaining a little bit about Earth Day and a little activity you might want to do about  looking after the planet Earth.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/us-t-318-earth-day-powerpoint

Even if you can’t print the activity off, I am sure you could make your own version and maybe you could even send me a photograph if you are able to.

Today I am working at one of the hub schools in Bathgate so I won’t be able to reply to any emails or messages immediately – please be patient  though and I will get back to you when I can !

Story Time from Home – Tuesday 21st April

Hello everyone

Wow! What a lot of messages yesterday! I am so glad to hear that everyone is geting on well and having a go at all the home learning tasks. The photos that you have been sending are fantastic and it is lovely that I can now see some of your lovely smiley faces again!

Here is the link to today’s dragon story and underneath it is a link to a youtube video about how to draw a dragon that you might want to try.  We have used some of these videos in the classroom for drawing thistles and a Scottie dog.  Remember it is a good idea to keep pausing the video as you draw.

It is a lovely sunny day here in Bathgate and hopefully it will be in Linlithgow too,  so maybe you’d rather get outside and keep the dragon drawing for another day!
