All of the children have now received their first home learning grid and a copy is attached to this post for your information. There are nine tasks and the children have been asked to choose one task from each row to complete, they can complete more tasks if they wish. It is hoped that this format for home learning will encourage the children to become more independent and more willing to discuss their learning at home. The first homework tasks will be discussed in class on Thursday 11th October and your child should come prepared to talk about the tasks they completed. As always should you have any questions regarding to child’s learning please do not hesitate to get in touch.

P3 Weekly Reflection 14.09.18
On Wednesday we went to the Book Festival at New Lanark. Luke N told us that he particularly enjoyed listening to Elizabath MacKay reading her book Wee Granny’s Magic Bag and the Pirates. Most of the children enjoyed the Annie MacLeod Experience where we learned about life in the past and most of us did not think children had a good life in those days. Emma M told us that she thought it was a dangerous and unhealthy thing to do climbing under the machines like Annie did. Sadly the weather was not very nice during our visit but William said he enjoyed running in the rain!
In Maths we have been using our addition and subtraction to complete magic squares. Mrs Clyne challenged us to make our own magic squares but most of us found this quite tricky. Perhaps you could practise some at home?
Yesterday, Mrs Hill came to talk to us about life on her cattle farm. Her husband has about 100 cows which he farms for beef. His cows will eventually end up in the supermarkets for us to buy. Mrs Hill spoke about the different types of machines and the jobs they do. Jarrad told us that he liked learning about the combine harvester. Lots of the children asked excellent questions and we learned lots. One interesting fact is that the cows will eat approximately 1000 bales of silage over the winter months. During the winter the cows are moved inside to the barn and Mr Hill’s friend sends his sheep to stay because it is too cold up on his farm further north. Kayden and Freya reminded us that having the sheep to stay was a good thing because they eat the grass right down which helps it to grow well again the following year.
Today in assembly Mrs Mill was talking about compassion. We learned to look out for those around us and help people when they are feeling sad or needing help. Emma M explained that if we do a small act of kindness for one person, they feel good and will then feel like doing something kind for someone else and the kindness spreads. Let’s see if we can spread some acts of kindness, I wonder how many acts of kindness Mrs Clyne will see over the next week?
Please remember the children are off on Monday and Tuesday next week. I hope you all have a lovely holiday weekend and look forward to hearing all the children’s news on Wednesday.
P3 Pupil of the Week
Well done to William who is our pupil of the week this week. He worked hard to find patterns during problem solving and was able to make super links in his learning.
P3 Window into Learning – Term 1
We have a busy term ahead. Please find attached a copy of our Window into Learning and the termly timetable. This will give you an idea of what the children will be learning this term and what subject areas they will have each day. Hopefully this will help to open up discussion about your child’s learning. Pupil of the Week 7.9.18
Well done to Anna who received P3’s Pupil of the Week for always making good choices, considering others and being a good role model.
P3 Weekly Reflection
One of the highlights in P3 this week was science with Mrs Fraser. We are learning about germs and have pressed our fingers into pieces of bread and sealed them in bags. The bags of bread have been left sitting at room temperature and next week we will look at them to see how many germs have appeared. We also enjoyed watching a cartoon clip about germs.
In maths we were faced with the problem of choosing a new kit for a football team. We had to use pictures and lists to help us work out how many different colour options there were. It was quite tricky but we enjoyed the challenge and look forward to continuing to develop our understanding of using lists and pictures to solve problems next week.
On Friday a lady called Roz came to talk at assembly and we learned about how difficult it is for children with leprosy to do everyday tasks. We are looking forward to taking part in a workout to raise funds for the charity Lepra so they can help even more children. We hope you can all donate a small amount to help us with this.
In P.E. we have been looking at developing skills and techniques which we can use to improve our fitness levels. Jarrad said his highlight of the week was doing shuttle runs in gym. We also practised star jumps, lunges, squats and step ups. I wonder what activities next week will bring!
This week we have begun to think about what ‘diversity’ means and we will continue to develop our understanding of this over the coming weeks.
P3 Meet the Teacher
Thank you to those who came along to our Meet the Teacher evening, it was lovely to see you all again and meet some new faces too. Please find attached the handout which contains all the information shared. If you have any questions regarding the information in the booklet please come and speak to me at the end of the school day or phone the office to leave a message or make an appointment. I am always happy to discuss your child’s learning and look forward to working with you to support your child this session. Many thanks.
Pupil of the Week 31.08.18
It has been a delight to welcome Kalista to Primary 3 and lovely to see her receive our first Pupil of the Week certificate this session. Kalista demonstrated excellent understanding of symmetry by colouring in a beautiful butterfly. Well done Kalista.
P3 Weekly Reflection 31.08.18
Another busy week in Primary 3 as we continued our Road Safety learning with a focus on the Green Cross Code. The children demonstrated excellent understanding of how to use the Green Cross Code when practising on our road in the playground. It would be great if you could practise using the Green Cross Code when out and about.
This week in Maths we have been learning about symmetry and the children demonstrated their understanding by colouring in some beautiful butterflies. We also practised rounding two and three digit numbers to the nearest 10.
On Wednesday, we started to learn about germs with Mrs Fraser. When I asked the children what germs were, Luke N told me they are “little bug things”. The children drew interesting pictures of what they thought a germ looked like.
Yesterday we listened to some great speeches from the children who wanted to be considered as the class representative for the Pupil Council. It was a close call but after a class vote I am delighted to announce that Olly and Euan will be our new class reps. They are looking forward to their first meeting next Tuesday.
Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday next week at our Meet the Teacher event (Wednesday 5th September 6-8pm).
Welcome to P3
We have had a busy week settling into Primary 3 and have welcomed Kalista to our class. The children are looking forward to getting to know each other over the coming weeks. On Wednesday we made a start on our Road Safety topic with some interesting discussions about how we find a safe place to cross the road. This year we will have a focus on the Green Cross Code. Working together we have created our new class charter and our new class motto will be ‘Reach out and lend a helping hand.’ We have made some colourful t.shirts to put on our class welcome display which you will see when you come to Meet the Teacher in a few weeks. Most of the children said they had enjoyed their first week in P3 and although Darcy said she was nervous on Tuesday, she said she is excited to be back and see all her friends. Rohan said he’s feeling good and has had a good week. I have enjoyed hearing all the children’s holiday stories and look forward to working with them this year. I hope everyone has a relaxing weekend.
