P1 Learning Reflection W/E 13.11.20

This week in P1 we have been learning the digraph sounds ck and sh. A digraph is when two sounds go together to make a new sound! For hold a sentence this week the children successfully used their learned sounds to write a sentence using punctuation and finger spaces. For numeracy, we have been using a ten frame to count on, add two sets to make 10. For number talks, we started with the answer and had to think of lots of different questions. We found lots of different questions which give the answer 7, 5+2, 10-3, 11-4, 4+3, 6+1, and 14-7. For PE this week the children enjoyed learning to play the game port/starboard in the playground.  We also started to learn a dance called The Sid, it was quite a challenge to remember all the steps in the right order!

We took all the red poppy stones that we have been painting over to the church on Remembrance day. We laid them out to make a big poppy.  When we got back to school we watched a video all about why we wear poppies in November.

The children have been enterprising little elves this week. They have learned to sew a running stitch and have made a great start sewing Christmas decorations.

Something mysterious happened in P1 this week. We came back from lunch yesterday to find strange footprints leading up to an egg! The children have lots of different ideas as to whom or what made the prints and left the egg. It could be a dinosaur, the Easter bunny, a monster, a werewolf or a cat! So to begin with we might find out what hatches from an egg!

Oliver –  There is a mysterious egg in our classroom!

Grace – There is a mysterious egg left in our class. There were footprints and an egg. The footprints look a bit like swan or penguin footprints.

Josh – We were learning to count to 10 in French. I can count up to 30 in French!

Izaan – We are learning to sew. We are making a stocking. It was tricky to pull the needle. I sewed the heart on!

Georgia – We sewed a love heart on our stocking.

Caleb – We learned the sh sound, s and h make the sh sound!

P1 Learning Reflection for W/E 6.11.20

Oliver – we were learning the sound ‘l’. To write ‘l’ you start at the top and go down the leg!

Grace – we learned the ‘h’ sound. You go down the horse and round the back to its hooves!

Rhy-lee – we were sorting buttons different ways. We sorted them by colour, shapes, holes in the middle and matching pairs.

Jessica – we did number talk for 5. You can have 10 and take 5 away to make 5. We found lots of different ways.

Josh – 3 and 2 make 5!

Elyas – We did a number talk about 4. I did 2 and 2 make 4!

Josh – 200 take away 196 makes 4!

P2/1 Weekly Learning Reflection W/E 13th November 2020

Good Afternoon. P2/1 have worked very hard this week. In Literacy, P1 have been learning the ‘sh’ and ‘ck’ diagraphs and the tricky word put. We made words on our magnetic boards, cut out and stuck down ‘ck’ words to match the picture, taught ted and played roll and read. P2 have been looking at high frequency words (common words). We played roll and read, looked for words in a word search, wrote words three ways and created our own games to help us learn the common words.

In Maths P1 have been exploring adding. We have been the sums, used the number spinners then used counters to add the numbers together, explored number bonds to 10 using Numicon and completed adding worksheets. P2 have explored the strategies of counting back using a number line and finding the difference. We also explored the 8 facts fact families. We played race to 0 game and completed subtractions using a number line to show our jumps.

In IDL this week we have explored the Arctic and Antarctica. We have explored where they are, what they look like and what animals live there. In Science with Miss Whigham we learned about the sun and how it revolves around the earth. We watched a video where the sun was talking. We learned how to draw poppies. On Wednesday we went over to the church to lay our painted poppy pebbles. We also observed the two minute silence.

Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

“I enjoyed playing roll and read of the common words. I also enjoyed creating my own board game. I found painting the poppies tricky.”

“I found it fun creating my own board game to learn the common words.”

“I did not know that the sun was a star. I knew the sun was very big and can shine into our world.”

“The sun is a star.”

“I liked making my board game.”

“I did not know that the sun was a big ball of gas and a star.”

“I enjoyed using common words to make a board game.”

“In the first place I did not know that the sun went around.”

P5 Reflection

As always P5 have had a busy week of learning. Here are some of our highlights.

Emma F – I am enjoying the Mandarin lessons. This week we learned numbers to 100 and about how people in China celebrate birthdays.

Kaitlyn – I enjoyed the lesson with Sandie from the zoo. It was about Giant Pandas and it was really interesting.

Lakshya – It was really good when Madame Moore was teaching us how to say different pets in French.

Leo – We went to the church to show our respect to the soldiers who died in wars. We left our poppy stones to show our respect.

Olly – It was really interesting to learn how Giant Pandas hold bamboo. They have an extra bit on their wrist that is like a thumb. I liked the books we used to do our spelling this week.

Kayden – I liked doing multiplying by 10 and I liked learning about the giant pandas.

Emma M – It was interesting to find out about the giant panda. We learned that it has a bigger rounder head than a black bear so that it is strong enough to chew the bamboo.

Jarrad – I liked learning about baby pandas. They are so small and they don’t look like pandas when they are born.

Primary 4 – w.e. 13.11.2020

Good afternoon,

What P4 have been learning this week:

In numeracy, we were learning our three times tables off by heart. We were working on our four and six times tables as well, through visual aids like arrays and groups and dividing as well as multiplying. In maths, we were learning time to five minute intervals and writing the time digitally and using analogue clocks too.

In literacy, we were using our listening and talking skills to show respect during Armistice day. We watched an assembly, were respectful of the two minutes silence and to those who died so that we could live. We watched a video which was an animation about wildlife in fields during the war to explain to the class, in a child friendly manner. In literacy, we have started our reciprocal reading books, we learned the difference between predicting and inferring when looking at a text.

In languages, we were learning French and we have started a six week block of Spanish lessons from Senor Reavell who is a languages teacher at Inveralmond High School.

In PE, we have been learning our birthday chance dance and have started incorporating what we have been learning in music and in dance in a game called ‘hip hop circle’.

In music, as we are not allowed to sing in school to follow Covid restrictions, we have been learning about the rhythm and the beat. We were learning through videos supplied by NYCOS, to create rhythms with our bodies. This week we did a ‘pease pudding’ rhythm with clapping and patting, then added on our own moves.

E – I have enjoyed painting and printing on to paper, the fish this week because it was fun.

P – I enjoyed learning the four times tables this week, because I didn’t know I would be doing the four times tables in P4.

S – I enjoyed PE this week because I liked creating my birthday chance dance.

A – I enjoyed learning more about division, because it was a challenge.

E – I liked learning about remembrance day, because we got to watch video’s about remembrance day.

A – I enjoyed learning about maths this week and doing arrays.

J – I liked placing the poppy pebble we made down at the church.

A – I enjoyed playing hip hop circle in PE.

L – I enjoyed playing ‘stop the clock’ in Maths when we were learning time.

A – We were learning our three times table off by heart.
