P1 Learning Reflection W/E 30.10.20

This week in P1 the children have been exploring the properties of 3D shapes. They have been busy hunting, building, printing, describing and sorting them. Our focused sounds this week were f and e. The children enjoyed playing a matching game reading CVC words and some were reading sentences and matching them to the correct picture. P1 had lots of Hallowe’en fun today,  it was great to see all the children in their super-spooky costumes!

Oliver – We learned the ‘f’ sound. It’s a pink sound because it’s a soft sound, fat has the ‘f’ sound.

Georgia – A triangular prism is a tent shape!

Grace – We learned the ‘e’ sound. We were doing tell Ted, we had to say how we write the ‘e’ sound.

Josh – I liked today it’s a fun day we are all dressed up, I am Harry Potter!

Olivia – I sounded out the sentences and matched them to the picture.

Halloween Horror or Happy Hardworking Heroes :-)

What a fabulous week we have had in Primary 5 this week. The pupils have been working so hard learning about length and distance in maths. Lots of measuring and thinking about how we really do need to know this maths in real life. Most pupils were able to explain how their parents use measuring skills in their jobs. It is so important to make the link between what we are learning and why.

The pupils were truly heroes during the bleep test this week. It started off a bit chilly but we ended up running in the rain. All the pupils were so determined that they wanted to run regardless of the weather. Some amazing scores were posted.

We ended the week with some spooky looking pupils. We were able to use Teams to share our Halloween jokes with P4, P6 and P7 – some big groans there but a few giggles too.

Labib – I enjoyed everything this week, especially the maths because I like measuring. I also liked the PE and the Smart Start on Tuesday when we had to see if we could find lots of words from some random letters.

Luke – I enjoyed Mandarin and I enjoyed dressing up for Halloween.

Freya – I liked the maths because it was challenging in some parts and sometimes I like to think about it.

Leo – I liked being allowed to dress up on Friday. My sister has a really cool costume.

Finn – I liked how when we were on Teams and we got to say our jokes to the other classes.

William – I liked colouring in the pumpkin pictures and I liked playing hockey in PE on Monday.

Luke – I enjoyed the Friday CLIC maths because I think I’m going to move up this week.

Jarrad – I like the Project Code X book I am reading this week. It is good how the characters have gadgets and can do different things. I like the French and saying the numbers. Neuf is my favourite. It is nine.

Anna – I like doing French with Madame Moore. I learned how to say I have a sister and how to pronounce it properly. You say “J’ai une soeur.”

Emma – I enjoyed the Mandarin lessons. I learned to say hi. It is ni hao.

Information for Parents

Good morning,

We would ask parents to read the following information as it includes some important information regarding changes in the law and offers resources to support children in this challenging time.

From 7 November 2020, all physical punishment of a child will be illegal, meaning children in Scotland will have the same protections against assault as adults.

Parent Club understands that being a parent or carer is the best job in the world but there will be days when it all feels a bit too much for parents and that it can be difficult to keep calm when kids are acting up.

To help families manage the challenges, especially during Covid, Parent Club have launched a Positive Parenting campaign which provides tips on coping with being a parent and keeping calm with their children so they can build a rewarding relationship together. Visit, parentclub.scot/topics/coronavirus/coping-with-parenting to find out more.

Please find attached campaign toolkit which outlines the campaign’s key messages and links to useful resources for parents.

P1 Learning Reflection W/E 23.10.20

This week P1 have enjoyed:

Josh – Freewriting Friday! You can draw whatever you want. I don’t know what I drew but there was kind of patterns in it.

Olivia – Learning about 2D shapes. We used pipe cleaners to make circles and triangles.

Jack – Making rockets with circles, triangles, rectangles and squares.

Ella – A circle has 1 curved side.

Oliver – We had to use finger spaces because when you don’t do them it’s hard to read.

Grace – Learning about putting a full stop at the end of a sentence.

A short but busy week in P1! This week we have been revising all of our learned sounds and building CVC words with them. P1 have been learning to write a sentence. There were lots of new challenges with this task. The children had to remember the sentence, use their sounds to spell each word, remember to use finger spaces between each word, use a capital letter at the start and a full stop at the end! They all tried their very best and successfully wrote their first sentence!

2D Shape

The children have explored 2D shapes. They have made them using pipe cleaners, lolly sticks, lego, blocks and pegboards. They have also spotted 2D shapes around the classroom and sorted and described their properties.

P2/1 Weekly Learning Reflection W/E 23rd October 2020

Good Afternoon. I hope you all had a lovely break. P2/1 have worked very hard in this short week. In Literacy, P1 have been practising their tricky words. We have been reading, writing and making words such as I, me and my. We played disappearing words. P2 have been looking at high frequency words (common words) such as little. We played roll and read, looked for words in a word search and put these words into  sentences.

In Maths P1 and P2 have been exploring 2D shapes. We have used shapes to make pictures, played shape bingo, played a shape monsters game on the smartboard, walked around the school on a shape hunt and coloured in shapes. We have discussed the properties of shapes for example a triangle has 3 sides and 3 points.

In Science with Miss Whigham we discussed Autumn. We spoke about the leaves changing colour, birds migrating and animals hibernating. We wrote about what we see in Autumn. In Drama, we explored using sign language to express how we are feeling.

Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

“I found it easy playing the roll and read with high frequency words.”

“I enjoyed searching for high frequency words in a word search.”

“I learned about squirrels making a store of their nuts for the winter. I did not know this before.”

“I found it tricky when practising writing the letter ‘g’.”

“I enjoyed colouring in the picture of the house and finding all the different shapes.”

“It was tricky writing the letter ‘g’.

“I enjoyed handwriting.”

“I found it hard writing the letter ‘p’.”

Have a lovely weekend.

Farewell Mrs Mill!

Today marked Mrs Mill’s last day as Head Teacher at LVPS! We gave her a lovely handmade gift which you will see below and Primary four, along with the other classes in the School, presented this to her. Each flower had a personal memory from the children inside them. She will be missed by all. Enjoy your retirement Mrs Mill!

P1 Learning Reflection W/E 9.10.20

In P1 this week our learned sounds were u and b and the tricky word no!  Some of the children went on an environmental word hunt around the school. They were amazed at how many words they could read! For numeracy, we have been adding 1 more to a number. The children all enjoyed outdoor learning this week. We went for a walk and explored the woods; we had to look up, down, over, under and through to see what we could see. We saw the river, brambles, broom, trees, leaves, sticks, branches, slugs, beetles, pinecones, feathers, moss and the light shimmering through the trees onto the ground!

P2/1 Weekly Learning Reflection W/E 9th October 2020

Good Afternoon. I can’t believe its Friday already and the end of our first term. What a quick term it has been.  This week in Literacy, P1 have learned the sounds ‘u’ and ‘b’ and the tricky word you. We have made a unicorn, a butterfly, taught ted how to write u and b, coloured pictures that begin with b and made words on our magnetic boards. P2 have been revising the aw, au, ir, er and ur sounds. We played snakes and ladders, played roll and read, looked for words in a word search and wrote the words three ways. We also read our reading books.

In Numeracy P1 have continued to explore pattern. We have copied and completed patterns on peg boards, made our own coloured patterns, made patterns with the counting bears, been the actual pattern(boy, girl etc.) and played patterns games. P2 have been learning to add more, find a part and have looked at finding how many left. We have completed part part whole models, worksheets and played Sumdog.

In Health and Wellbeing we explored the story of My Fantastic Elastic Brain. It taught us that we can grow our brains. We can grow our brain by doing things that we have never done before and that we find hard at first. We discussed saying I can’t do it …yet! For IDL, we worked with a partner to create a fact file about an animal. We drew a picture of the animal and found out where it lived, what it ate and about its young.

In Drama, we explored using mime to show our emotions. We worked in a pair and the rest of the class had to guess how we were feeling. In Science with Miss Whigham we were learning about habitats. We looked at how animals adapt depending on where they live.

Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

“I enjoyed completing the word search of ir, er and ur words. I enjoyed finding Miss Maclachlan’s mistake. She had put the word burn in twice. ”

“I found it tricky this week when making the butterfly. I enjoyed finding out the facts about the animals”

“I found creating a pattern with the counting bears easy. I think completing the butterfly was hard.”

“I found creating a beautiful butterfly a bit tricky.”

“I enjoyed doing my sounds word search.”

“I liked playing roll and read with aw or au words.”

“I enjoyed completing the word search.”

Have a lovely holiday.
