P6 This week (29.5.20)

Super letter writing skills this week from our P6’s as well as acrostic poems about keyworkers. We have finished our learning about money, time and algebra. We are also coming to the climax of our novel ‘Millions’ and are desperate to find out what happens! The tension created in the last couple of chapters that  we read was intense.

In learning about our topic- natural disasters, we discovered the impact flooding can have on the environment and people.

We received our microbits from our teachers this week and are looking forward to getting coding with them.

P2/1 Home Learning Weekly Reflection Week Ending 29th May 2020

Good afternoon Primary 2/1. What a lovely week it has been. I hope you have been out enjoying the sunshine.  From the photos I have been sent and seen on Twitter there has been a variety of learning experiences taking place.  I have seen and heard of measuring out the size of a blue whale, writing acrostic poems about whales and spring, sorting heavy and light objects, sorting shapes, building with Lego, walks by the river and even baking cakes.

P1’s Literacy learning has been focused around the ‘ow’ sound and the tricky word ‘who’. For literacy we have been writing our spelling words three times, reading the story of The fox and the owl, finding the ‘ow’ words in the story, making a hopscotch board then hopping our words and playing‘ow’ words snakes and ladders.

In Numeracy and Maths the focus for this week was on measuring weight using nonstandard units. We found objects around the house, weighed them using our hands pretending we were a pan balance, drew the objects in the correct column (heavy or light) and played the game what is the heaviest/lightest? We also carried out the experiment the magic falling orange and learned about inertia.

P2’s focus in Literacy this week has been on the ‘o-e’ spelling pattern, writing a spring acrostic poem, looking at adverbs, identifying adverbs in sentences and talking about our favourite character from a book we have read.

In Numeracy and Maths the focus this week was on 2D and 3D shapes and patterns involving shapes. We sorted 2D shapes and 3D shapes using different criteria, labelled and named 2D and 3D shapes, created different patterns using shapes and played guess the shape games. For guess the shapes games we had to know about the properties of each shape.

This week we have enjoyed learning about whales as part of our Under the Sea topic. We have been writing acrostic poems about whales, carrying out an experiment to help us learn about how a whale eats and measuring the size of a grey and blue whale. We can’t get over how large a blue whale is!

For science this week we have been exploring the life cycle of a butterfly.

Here are a selection of photos of the learning this week.

Have a lovely weekend.
