P3 Weekly Reflection

Image result for children at pe

One of the highlights in P3 this week was science with Mrs Fraser.  We are learning about germs and have pressed our fingers into pieces of bread and sealed them in bags.  The bags of bread have been left sitting at room temperature and next week we will look at them to see how many germs have appeared.  We also enjoyed watching a cartoon clip about germs.

In maths we were faced with the problem of choosing a new kit for a football team.  We had to use pictures and lists to help us work out how many different colour options there were.  It was quite tricky but we enjoyed the challenge and look forward to continuing to develop our understanding of using lists and pictures to solve problems next week.

On Friday a lady called Roz came to talk at assembly and we learned about how difficult it is for children with leprosy to do everyday tasks.  We are looking forward to taking part in a workout to raise funds for the charity Lepra so they can help even more children.  We hope you can all donate a small amount to help us with this.

In P.E. we have been looking at developing skills and techniques which we can use to improve our fitness levels.  Jarrad said his highlight of the week was doing shuttle runs in gym.  We also practised star jumps, lunges, squats and step ups.  I wonder what activities next week will bring!

This week we have begun to think about what ‘diversity’ means and we will continue to develop our understanding of this over the coming weeks.

Learning Reflection for W/E 7.9.18

The children have been busy this week learning the sounds d and t.  We have also started to build some words using our learned sounds. The children have been using their listening skills to spot if they hear a sound first or last when saying a CVC word. For example with the word mat do you hear the t sound first or last? In numeracy we have been counting and sorting with 6 and 7 this week.  In PE the class enjoyed using juggling scarves and balance boards to practice skills such as balance and hand eye coordination.

Below are the children’s comments on their learning highlights and challenges this week.

Highlights

L – learning d and t, I like learning them

J – singing songs

H – playing in the house corner

P – we found a candle and we were saying if it man made or natural

Al – You go down the tower and across the tower to make t

Au – science, well the hard stuff was wood and the soft stuff was playdoh

Su – we made a house for the pig we need more bricks or the wolf will come

Sub – building the house with bricks

Ch – getting lots of friends

Challenges

L – getting ready for PE

Al – When we write the letter d

Au – in the gym hall when we did the balance and catching

N – it was kind of difficult listening to the ringing bell

Ch – writing the sounds d and t if you keep going and going you get better.

Its FRIDAY!

What another busy week in Primary 5!

This week has been action packed as we continued to read Harry Potter and become The Daily Prophet Reporters, investigating the mysterious break-in at Gringotts! Wow we have some great roving reporters in primary 5…

The children also have been working on their Diagon Alley maps to help Harry find his way around the busiest shopping area in the whole of the Wizarding World! The children also created some shops of their own giving descriptions of what goods would be sold there. The imagination in this class is fantastic.

In Maths we have revisited Place Value using lots of different strategies as well as keeping up with timetables revision.

Great work in PE, using their skills in pass-move-communicate-catch to help in their small sided game play.

And finally, we have been discussing what it means to be part of a TEAM! The children could explain the benefits of helping and supporting each other. They loved the video of the ants moving cheerios using TeamWork! We then had a singalong to ‘We’re All in This Together’ and the new House Captains and Vice Captains joined us….great way to end the week!

Have a great weekend….

So much to tell you this week…

Thank you to those who came to the Meet The Teacher on Wednesday. If you were unable to attend, here is a link to the presentation.

Meet the Teacher Parent Presentation

P7 really is like no other year in Primary School – so many new responsibilities and opportunities. This week we announced our new House Captains:

Calderwood – Ben M and Emmie

Almondell – Eleni and Liam

Eliburn – Harry and Tyler

Beecraigs – Erin and Brooke

Congratulations to them and to everyone who went for these posts – you were all very professional and your speeches were heartfelt. You made the decisions very difficult.

We also have 4 Reading Ambassadors to congratulate:

Sophie C, Sophie M, Kaitlyn and Agota

They have a very busy year ahead helping us to encourage more reading throughout the school. Well done girls!

We also have our new Sports Captains:

Holly and Samuel

They will be organising all sorts of sporty things this year, as well as making sure the teachers are keeping the PE cupboard tidy – good luck with that!

We have several pupils applying to be Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) next week, so good luck to those pupils.

Looking back on what we have done in class this week, our Class Charter is now complete and has been signed by everyone to ensure we make this last year at primary school the best ever.

We started a year long programme with the Inveralmond CHS School of Football coach. We are so fortunate to be able to participate in this programme which focusses on developing the whole person, using football as a context. The key thing is that everyone is only competing against themselves to get better at everything, not just sport. There will be a mix of classroom sessions and physical sessions.

Pupil reflections:

Matthew – We did football and it was good but not tiring. We got our charter done eventually. Handball in PE was fun but a bit rough.

Sophie C – Number Talks was quite good. I think I can try some different ways to work out multiplication.

Charlie – I liked using the magnifier to look at rocks but you had to use the wee do part to get the best look. I learned about igneous rocks and metamorphic rocks.

Kieran – Number Talks was hard at the start but today we were much quicker.

Jack – It was good to pick our own story to write a report on, but it was difficult because the starting paragraph had to be a specific way.

P2’s Week

We have been working hard this week to settle into our new routines. Everyone has a new reading book. In numeracy we have been doubling and halving numbers to 20. We got our Sumdog logins ( same as previously) which are stuck inside our reading records. There is a contest on this week for us to take part in – so have a go if you have any spare time! A few children did not have their reading records today- so will get their sumdog logins on Monday.

This week in P4

We have finished our traffic survey and are beginning to learn about block graphs and how to draw them.

We enjoyed doing tricky sums in maths as we continue to explore word problems and how to understand them.

We really like playing boggle to help us with our spelling and vocabulary.

We have enjoyed about the stories of St.George and the Dragon and The Beast with a Thousand teeth.

We are looking forward to more science with Mrs Fraser.

we are loving going out and about on Tuesdays for outdoor classroom.

Sumdog

Help your child enjoy mathematics with Sumdog At school, we’re using an engaging mathematical program called Sumdog. It uses games to encourage students, and automatically adapts to your child’s needs. To help with our mathematics learning, we’d like you to encourage your child to play a little Sumdog each week. As they play, Sumdog asks questions that are tailored to their individual learning. You can use the Sumdog website on your computer, or download the iPad or Android app.

To celebrate Maths Week Scotland, Sumdog are running a special nationwide maths contest. Your child can log on at school and at home.  Start 7th of September end 13th of September.

I have set the children up will an account and your child will bring home their login details tomorrow.
