This week in P5…

we have been looking at fractions and specifically fractions of a number. Murray reported that “the fractions were fun! Learning how to use our times tables to work it out was interesting and really good fun.”

The children have also been working on their Class debate and had a trial run yesterday. Aiden was very confident as our Chairperson and did a good job in keeping the debate flowing. Aiden explained ” I thought it was quite good. We tried to organise it well and can’t wait to do the real Debate next week.” Primary 5 will be inviting  their peers in P6 and P4 to be our audience.

Good job this week P5!

P1M’s Learning Reflection W/E 11th May

We have had a busy week. We have been looking at odd and even number patterns. In literacy, we have been practicing our sounds and doing hold a sentence. The sentence we held in our head was ‘the boys and girls can play.’ We then wrote this sentence. We have started watching the birds that come to our school garden. We are recording these on a tally chart. For art, we drew ‘Mirror mirror on the wall’ self-portraits linked to Snow White. Here are some of the the children’s thoughts about their learning:

Mathew: I enjoyed everything about school this week!

Jaxon: I enjoyed using the mirror to create my ‘mirror, mirror on the wall’ self-portrait.

Amelia: I found the odd and even number patterns tricky.

Pola: I enjoyed learning about the princesses.

Calum: I enjoyed finding the odd and even number patterns. It was easy for me.

Anya: I found it tricky using the mirror to draw my self-portrait.

James: I really enjoyed everything about school this week.

Cali: I enjoyed practicing my sounds.

P3 Explore Ancient Egypt

Last week was a very busy week in Primary 3. We learned about lots of interesting things and in particular we loved learning about Ancient Egypt as part of our topic.

In Maths we learned how to carry out repeated addition and created some fantastic arrays using our whiteboards. We also learned how to do chimney sums using double digits e.g. 55+55=110 etc.

Our writing lessons were fun because we drew a monster and then we used descriptive language to describe it.  We used similes and different openers to make our writing more interesting. To make our monsters more realistic, we had to describe the arms, body shape, eyes, nose and teeth etc. Our Guided Reading  tied in with our topic.

For our topic we have been learning all about Ancient Egypt and some really interesting facts. This has helped us to develop new vocabulary.

We used ICT to create some wonderful power-points about Egypt that we will be showing at our class assembly. A famous pharaoh  was Tutankhamen  and we learned that he wasn’t very wealthy in comparison to the other pharaohs.  In London there is a museum that contains Tutankhamen’s chair.  He was the only pharaoh who had not been robbed from his tomb and a man called Howard Carter found his tomb.

We look forward to sharing more facts next week.

Fantastic Footballers!

Congratulations to Toby, Liam, Sonny and David who had their places at the Inveralmond Academy of Football confirmed today.

The boys were selected after 2 rounds of football trials and an informal interview. The course is not just about improving football skills, it is about developing the whole footballer so sportsmanship and friendship are key attributes. The boys also have to show that they can maintain high standards of work across all other subjects in order to remain on the course.

Really well done boys!

P1K Learning Reflection for W/E 04.05.18

We have had a busy week in P1K. We wrote letters to the Friendly Dragon to let it know that we could help save the Enchanted Forest.  Then we received a treasure chest from the Friendly Dragon with clues to our first fairy-tale. Our focus in maths this week was measuring capacity; the children had lots of fun filling different containers with water, sand and stones. In RME we have been learning about how families prepare for and welcome a new baby. The children were very surprised when they came back from lunch and found a baby sleeping in the classroom!

John – we learned the sound oy it has o and y and it’s a special friend, toy, boy, joy and enjoy have oy

Caleb – I was reading ‘my dog Ned’ I was pointing and Rayyaan was reading then we switched over

Nathan – if you get stuck you sound out a word. We wrote to the dragon and we got a present from the Friendly Dragon. We got some birds, a poisoned apple and a mirror, they were clues it was Snow White

Maddie – We wrote a letter to the Dragon because we want to save fairyland. We have been reading the Snow White book and there was a poison apple and the queen gave it to Snow White, she went to sleep

Andrew – we learned oy and ou its spells ouch, mouse. The baby came into our class and we looked after it

Maizy – I liked learning about the baby, you need nappies, milk and give them good care

Emma C – we made cards for the baby to welcome it

Holly – we made special cards for the baby, we were learning about what babies need, they need a car seat, a high chair, food

Emma Ch – we have been talking about the baby and what it needs. It needs nappies, loads of care and to sleep by mum and dad

Sophia – A baby needs love. We have been measuring liquids the stones made the water go higher and higher. The stones are heavier that the water when me and Maddie put the stones in the water it blasted out

A  – we measured liquid and we needed  it at the top so its full,  I estimated 8 little jugs to fill the big jug and I was right it was 8

Aakruti  – we did half, full and empty in the sand we measure it, it was 19 scoops to fill up the tub

Jamie – when I put the stones in, the water went full because the stones pushed it up

Poppy – in big maths I had 9 + 1, 7 + 3, 5 + 5 they are all friends of ten, I did my Learnit before the timer finished

Rayyaan – in big maths I did doubles

P1M Learning Reflection W/E 4th May

Primary 1 have been busy learning the last set 2 sound which was ‘oy’. We brainstormed and then made lots of ‘oy’ words such as boy. We also learned  the tricky word ‘too’. In writing we have been working on letter writing and we wrote a letter to the friendly dragon telling him that we are going to help him save the enchanted forest by getting people to believe in fairy tales again. The dragon paid the classroom a visit when we were at lunch on Wednesday and left us a mirror and a number 7. We worked out that the items were from Snow White and we listened to the story. We then pretended we were Snow White walking through the dark scary forest. In Maths, we have been learning about capacity and how many cups of water or sand it takes to fill objects. We learned the terms full, half full, nearly full/empty and empty. Here are a few thoughts from the children on their learning this week:

Pola: I enjoyed drama when we were a tree or Snow White walking through the forest!

Amelia: I loved being a scary tree in the forest.

Safia: I liked listening to fairy tales.

Aiden: I enjoyed listening to the story of Snow White.

Calum: I liked learning the ‘oy’ sound and building lots of words with it.

James: I enjoyed learning about capacity and how many cups it took to fill different containers.

Lewis: I liked developing skills in Yoga.
