This (short but busy) Week in P7

What a whirlwind few days it has been. Miss Lenathen has been squeezing in lessons in between all the other activities, including practising for our assembly today. Thank you to the parents who attended and for their positive comments and feedback.

The highlight of the week had to be our visit to The Risk Factory. The class have been continuing to reflect on the scenarios they encountered and on what they would do better/more safely next time. It is a great learning experience for P7 pupils as they begin to be more independent and venture further afield. Thankfully, at The Risk Factory, they are allowed to make risky decisions in a safe environment – was your child one of those who went onto the railway line to get a £20 note, or did they run back into a burning building?

Just a reminder for pupils that the latest Sumdog National Competition started today, and that all pupils have been entered. It is easy to log on and join in from home. As soon as they start answering questions it will count towards our school total.

P4 Learning.

Over last week and this week we have had two trips to the library and Morrisons att Carmondean. In the library we had tasks to do to help us find books using alphabetical order for fiction books and the Dewey decimal system for non-fiction books.  In Morrisons we tasted some fresh fruit, and talked about canned fruit and dried fruit. We met a fishmonger who gutted a fish and a butcher who showed us pieces of meat and talked about what animals they came from. The baker showed us how he made donuts and rolls.

This week we had an extra adventure on the way up to Carmondean . We saw a Blue tit caught in some fishing string.   Mrs Smith picked up to the Blue Tit in her scarf and tried to untangle the fishing string. She asked Mrs Findlay for her car keys to try and cut the sring.  Meanwhile, Mrs Findlay and Mrs Farrell stated to open the first aid bag to find scissors, but the scissors were not sharp ended so the twine could not be cut enough to loose the birds  toes.  Mrs Smith decided it was best to call the SSPCA and continue to Carmondean.

While at the library Mrs Smith lay the Blue Tit down on the librarians desk, wrapped in the scarf, so she could help with a task.  When it was time to go, we were going to put the bird in a box to keep at the library until the man from the SSPCA arrived.   However, we found out the bird was gone!     It was now time to leave so the SSPCA man just had try and find it himself,  we still dont know how it escaped or where the bird hid.  Later, back at school, Mrs Young got a phone call from the SSPCA man and he said that he had found the Blue Tit, taken off the string and it was back in the wild.       By Owen, Lily-rose and Mrs Smith .

P2 Weekly Reflection 11th May

Although this has been a short week we have still been learning lots in class.  We used a word processor to develop our understanding of typography.  Typography is when writers present text in different ways, this might include the font, the style and the size.  We practised using the word processor to change text.  In science we have been learning about mini-beasts and Ethan reminded us that ladybirds have a red shell so that the birds don’t eat them, this helps to protect them.  Leo told us that he learnt that insects have 6 legs apart from spiders which have 8 legs.  Darcy said that she had learnt that insects have 3 parts to their body; head, thorax and abdomen.  Freya told us that some mini-beasts have four wings.  In grammar, we have been learning about synonyms and the children worked in groups to identify synonyms for the words ‘bad’, ‘good, ‘happy’ and ‘sad’.

Primary 6 – Futsal

Primary 6 have been playing Futsal this term. This takes place every Wednesday.

‘It was really fun and you get to develop lots of new skills’ Ben M

‘It’s nice to have 3 different teachers for PE, teaching us different things’ Sophie M

This week in P5…

we have been looking at fractions and specifically fractions of a number. Murray reported that “the fractions were fun! Learning how to use our times tables to work it out was interesting and really good fun.”

The children have also been working on their Class debate and had a trial run yesterday. Aiden was very confident as our Chairperson and did a good job in keeping the debate flowing. Aiden explained ” I thought it was quite good. We tried to organise it well and can’t wait to do the real Debate next week.” Primary 5 will be inviting  their peers in P6 and P4 to be our audience.

Good job this week P5!

P1M’s Learning Reflection W/E 11th May

We have had a busy week. We have been looking at odd and even number patterns. In literacy, we have been practicing our sounds and doing hold a sentence. The sentence we held in our head was ‘the boys and girls can play.’ We then wrote this sentence. We have started watching the birds that come to our school garden. We are recording these on a tally chart. For art, we drew ‘Mirror mirror on the wall’ self-portraits linked to Snow White. Here are some of the the children’s thoughts about their learning:

Mathew: I enjoyed everything about school this week!

Jaxon: I enjoyed using the mirror to create my ‘mirror, mirror on the wall’ self-portrait.

Amelia: I found the odd and even number patterns tricky.

Pola: I enjoyed learning about the princesses.

Calum: I enjoyed finding the odd and even number patterns. It was easy for me.

Anya: I found it tricky using the mirror to draw my self-portrait.

James: I really enjoyed everything about school this week.

Cali: I enjoyed practicing my sounds.

P3 Explore Ancient Egypt

Last week was a very busy week in Primary 3. We learned about lots of interesting things and in particular we loved learning about Ancient Egypt as part of our topic.

In Maths we learned how to carry out repeated addition and created some fantastic arrays using our whiteboards. We also learned how to do chimney sums using double digits e.g. 55+55=110 etc.

Our writing lessons were fun because we drew a monster and then we used descriptive language to describe it.  We used similes and different openers to make our writing more interesting. To make our monsters more realistic, we had to describe the arms, body shape, eyes, nose and teeth etc. Our Guided Reading  tied in with our topic.

For our topic we have been learning all about Ancient Egypt and some really interesting facts. This has helped us to develop new vocabulary.

We used ICT to create some wonderful power-points about Egypt that we will be showing at our class assembly. A famous pharaoh  was Tutankhamen  and we learned that he wasn’t very wealthy in comparison to the other pharaohs.  In London there is a museum that contains Tutankhamen’s chair.  He was the only pharaoh who had not been robbed from his tomb and a man called Howard Carter found his tomb.

We look forward to sharing more facts next week.
