Thistle at Christmas!

We have had such an exciting time at the end of Term 2. We had our final rounders competition against the children of Bramble where we use all our skills and teamwork that we have been developing to secure a victory.

We had also decided we wanted to raise some money for those more vulnerable at this time of year. In small teams we chose a charity that was important to us, researched a recipe and worked to a budget. We then came together in the STEM studio to make our bakes, created adverts through our persuasive writing and sold them to primary 4 and 5 children. We were delighted by our success and raised a joint total of £74.06 for Sick Kids, Cancer Research UK and Children in Need.

Finally, we had a tremendous time on Tuesday at our Christmas party with dancing, games, prizes, snacks! Merry Christmas everyone!!

Christmas in Bluebell

Christmas Crafts

We have had such a busy week in Calderwood! Bluebell Clan have been engaging in lots of fun Christmas craft activities, creating little handmade gifts for their loved ones. We won’t give away what they made just yet and will leave this as a little surprise for Christmas day. However, have a look at how Bluebell Clan have been extremely busy elves!

We then wrapped our Christmas presents and watched tutorials on how to make a bow. This supports our fine motor skills development as we were using small muscles in our hand, wrist and fingers to wrap the presents and tie the ribbon. We helped each other along the way demonstrating great team work and collaboration.

Christmas Party Fun

We had an amazing time at our Christmas Party. We played games such as musical bumps, Christmas corners and pass the parcel. We then enjoyed some party food before having a dance off! Well done to the pupils that won the dancing competition, it was such a difficult decision as everyone danced so well!

Have a look at how much fun we all had!

Leg it to Lapland Challenge

Calderwood Primary School took part in the Sustrans Christmas Challenge, ‘Leg it to Lapland’. This challenge encouraged all pupils to take their journeys to and from school by foot, scooter or bicycle. The charity launched this challenge to help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution around the school. Each day pupils travelled to school during the challenge week they earned ‘one virtual mile’ towards Lapland. Completing 30 mins of other exercise i.e. dancing, scoring goals at football practice or learning some new moves at Taekwondo practice also earned them a virtual mile! Completing other active journeys e.g. walking to football practice also earned them a virtual mile! The school who get the highest number of average miles per pupil will be the winner!

We were very lucky to have Santa and his elves deliver a special prize to a pupil in each clan who had gone over and above during the Leg it to Lapland Challenge week! Well done to all of our pupils!
