At Calderwood, we are keen to support this year’s Child Flu Vaccination Programme and help families access accurate, trusted information about the flu vaccine. Public Health Scotland has asked schools to help share information and resources with parents, carers and young people as preparations begin for this year’s vaccination programme.
The flu vaccine helps protect children and young people from flu and can also help reduce the spread of the virus within families and the wider community.
Resources Available for Families
Public Health Scotland has a range of free resources available to support parents, carers and young people, including:
- Information leaflets for parents, carers and young people
- Resources available in alternative formats and a range of languages
- Guidance on completing consent forms
- Information from NHS Inform about flu and vaccination
- A video showing how the nasal spray vaccine is given to a child

Helping Children Feel Prepared
Public Health Scotland has created short video clips which can help children and young people understand what to expect on vaccination day. These resources can help reduce any worries and support positive conversations about vaccination at home.
What We Ask of Families
We would encourage parents and carers to:
- Read the information provided about the flu vaccination programme
- Return vaccination consent forms promptly when issued
- Access trusted sources of information if they have questions about the vaccine
- Make use of information available in alternative formats or languages if required
