Tummel – Our Class is a Family

During the first few weeks of school, we created our Class Charter, inspired by the wonderful book Our Class is a Family by Shannon Olsen. The story encouraged us to think about what it means to belong, support one another, and work together as a team.

As a class, we explored the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and discussed the rights that are important to us at school. We learned that every child has the right to feel safe, respected, included, and listened to. Together, we identified the promises and responsibilities that will help us uphold and protect these rights each day.

To bring our charter to life, we decided to base our charter around a neighbourhood. Each pupil designed their own house (or Vue Cinema!) and this helps us to remember  we are all part of a community that celebrates our own individuality, ensures every voice is valued, and we can be

stronger when we support one another.
