Bellsquarry Primary School

Primary 3/2 update

We’ve had an incredibly busy start to our new year term, enjoying lots of special activities with visitors to the school and  exploring new directions in our learning across the curriculum.

In January,  P2 were treated to a special musical workshop day , finding out about how music can affect our feelings and reactions . We worked with Dave Troughton who is a specialist  in creating the musical scores for theatre productions. He introduced us to a huge range of instruments and at the end of the day, we performed a  musical accompaniment to a story. It was great fun!

P3 also shared an expressive workshop developing their singing skills, finding patterns and rhythm in music and playing lots of active games.

For the last 4 weeks, we’ve been developing our agility   with a tennis coach and are looking forward to continuing what we’ve learned after the February break, in our own gym times.

In numeracy, we’re working really hard on problem solving and interpreting written number problems. We work in pairs to identify which mathematical process we should use to try and solve the problems  and have discovered there’s often more than one way to reach a solution!

This week, we’ve been mind mapping what we know about Bellsquarry Village and have complied a long list of questions we want to research answers to. We  will be looking at the history and geography of the area, making a timeline of our school’s history and inviting some of the older residents of the village in to share with us information about the past. If you see us out and about with our clipboards and cameras you’ll know we’re busy collecting evidence!

Have a wonderful mid term weekend
