We are delighted to have achieved the prestigious Gold Reading Schools Award in 2024.
Our Literacy Pupil Voice Group worked tirelessly to organise a wide range of exciting events and activities for the whole school community to enjoy. They are passionate advocates for reading and continuously promote reading for pleasure throughout the school. We are incredibly proud of the fantastic ambassadors they have become.

Our Librarians
Each year, we invite pupils in Primary 5 to Primary 7 to apply for the role of School Librarian. This is a highly valued leadership opportunity that allows pupils to develop responsibility, teamwork and organisational skills while helping to promote a love of reading across the school.
Our librarians play an important role in maintaining the library, recommending books, supporting reading initiatives and encouraging younger pupils to enjoy reading for pleasure.
Book Bug and Read, Write, Count Bags
Each year in November, we celebrate reading with our P1, P2 and P3 pupils through our popular ‘Shortbread and a Story’ event. During this event, P1 pupils receive their Bookbug Bags, while P2 and P3 pupils are gifted their Read, Write, Count Bags from the Scottish Book Trust.
Borrow Barrow
Our Borrow Barrow features some of our brand new book releases which are available in our school library. We have found its a great way to engage our readers!

Author Visits
Bernie Hollywood – Bernie inspired a book entitled “Bernie and Boatie” which is all about helping children’s mental health after his journey rowing across the Atlantic ocean to raise money for charity.
Thomas Clark – Thomas is a Scottish author who came to visit Chatelherault to tell us all about his Scot’s comic ‘Eejit Street’ and even signed some autographs.
Fiona MacGregor – Fiona, author of ‘The Canny Capercaillie’ was welcomed by P7. They had great fun using a variety of props and percussion instruments to accompany the story.

Here you will find some recommended reads from some of the children in our school. These books will be available throughout the school if you would like to give them a try.
Community Book Drop
Our librarians very kindly donated some recommended reads to our local community.
Reading Bistro
Our Reading Bistro is shortly going to be open again to parents and carers. We hope you can pop in and visit us, we would love to see you!
