SECOND LEVEL LESSON 2 Week commencing – Mon 1st June
MUSIC
DRUMMING
What you will need: 2 beaters to use as drumsticks (e.g. wooden spoons, chopsticks, pens), plastic bucket, basin biscuit or sweet tin or any empty container you have.
Learning how to drum is good fun. In a very short time you can learn the basic rudiments of drumming and play along to your favourite music.
To begin drumming we need to start with learning how to keep a STEADY beat.
*Using both sticks, play – right, left, right, left (R L R L) keeping a steady rhythm. Now change to starting with your left hand- left, right, left, left
Have you got it? FANTASTIC! You are now ready to move on to playing PARADIDDLES.
*Next play a PARADIDDLE which is 8 beats –
R L RR L R L L Repeat this OVER AND OVER
*What do you notice about which hand starts first?
GREAT!!!!!!
*We can now add in an ACCENT which is a heavy (or light) beat within your rhythm pattern.
Say PA RA DI DDLE as you play and ACCENT the first beat on the PA.
PA – ra – di – ddle R L R R L R L L Do this OVER AND OVER until you can play with your eyes closed!
YOU ARE NOW A DRUMMER!
