This morning we had a really exciting workshop with Emma Chittick. She taught us about renewable energy and then we had to make a LEGO wind turbine. At the end of the lesson we tested all the turbines to see which produced the most energy. Kathryn and Isla WON!!!

Primary 7 Assembly
This afternoon Primary 7 did something a little bit different for their assembly / show of learning. They split into four groups to explain about all theย things that they were finding out about in Block 1. Each group split into two teams to make display boards and explain all about Pneumatics, Electricity, Enterprise and John Muir. The school split into their Focus Friday groups and parents joined the teams to visit each of the four workshops.
Toby did a fantastic job of timekeeping to keep us all on track, and everyone seemed to find their way from group to group.
After that, Primary 7 played a short piece from the beginning of their Radio Scotland Junior Historians show, that they made in the autumn. And finally Drew played a ‘Thank you for listening’ film that he had made using his drone.
The Primary 7s really enjoyed doing their assembly like this and said that it was a lot more fun and they enjoyed speaking to smaller groups and doing lots of activities. Ms Scanlan was very proud of all of them and hopes that the audience were too.ย Well done P7s!
STEM Christmas Challenge
This afternoon we had to make the longest paper chain that we could, out of just one sheet of A4 paper.

Mirrin and Joanna won, with a length of 4.75m!
Our Pneumatic Models
This afternoon we finished off our models and what a great job everyone has done. Lots of imagination has gone into all the different designs .
Well done P7s.

STEM 2
Emma Chittick came to run our second STEM session today. This time we were finding out about solar power. We learnt about how solar power works and we had a go at making our own solar farms.

STEM visit
On 6th November, Emma Chittick came to P7 to start our renewable energy topic. We talked about the difference between renewable and non renewable energy, saw how turbines generate energy and were given the equipment to make our own turbines.
Rockets
On Tuesday 17th September, two scientists from the Edinburgh Observatory came to talk to us about space and rockets. They showed us part of one of the Skylark rockets that had been designed in Edinburgh 50 years ago and had been sent into space to take UV images.
We then had an opportunity to make our own rockets. These were launched in the multi-court and some fired right out of the multi-court!
Last STEM
Today we had our last STEM ย session. Emma Chittick was really pleased with all the skills that the class demonstrated, not just ICT skills, but cooperation and helping each other too.
Cole said โIt was fun, going around the pretend city. It was also fun controlling the robots and telling them what to.โ
Archie said โIt was good. ย I most enjoyed programming the robots.โ
Christie said โI loved the way you could do the task in your own way.โ
Joanna said โ It was fun and it could make people more aware about all the different things you can do with screens.โ
Emmy said โIt was to learn about the driverless cars and the advantages and disadvantages of them.โ
Faith โIt was fun to programme your ย own robot.โ

STEM 3
Today, the class were given their next challenge, they had to deliver a โbaguette โ by a driverless car! We used sensors, sound, the front lever to do this. Weโve got quite a few expert engineers now!

STEM 2
We had a great time in the Pool room programming our robots today. Everyone is getting really good at knowing how to make the robots move, turn, make sound, use the grabbing arm and the sensors. Engineers in the making!
