Yesterday, we started a new topic of fractions during our Maths lesson. We moved around the classroom completing practical activities to share what we know about fractions already. Fraction Connect 4 was certainly a big favourite!

Last week, we started our topic looking at Shetland through history. We started with looking at the Stone Age and what this looked like in Shetland. We really enjoyed trying to dye cloth using natural materials just like they would have done during this time. It was definitely a messy but fun afternoon!
Best of luck to our Euroquiz team tomorrow as they embark on the Shetland heat. They have worked really hard and we are sure they will do the school proud.
Today we have had the pleasure of a visit organised by Shetland Inter Faith. We have heard from Buddhist monk, Rev Morawaka, Hakka Adzmir, a Muslim student and member of Interfaith Scotland Youth Advisory Board and Frances Hume, the National Development Officer from Interfaith Scotland.
It was really interesting to hear about faiths that are not well represented in Shetland, the class enjoyed listening to everyone, as well as seeing some of the special clothes worn by different religions.
We are very grateful to our special visitors today, and we very much appreciate their time to stop by for a visit.
Over the last few weeks, we have been looking at healthy eating. As part of this learning, we have looked at why handwashing is key to keeping healthy. We looked into this by investigating the rate of mold growth on bread which was not touched (control), touched with dirty hands and touched with washed hands. We were quite surprised with some of the growth on the clean hands bread which made us think of our own handwashing techniques! Take a look at our results.
In class, we have been looking at different forces. This week we have been looking at how air resistance impacts how objects move. We created parachutes for a Lego character and investigated how effective different shapes were at creating more air resistance. We had a lot of fun testing them out!
