P7 home learning tasks for Thursday 4th June 2020

Good morning children…

Bitmoji Image
No lesson plan today as you have two tasks to do that will take up a good bit of your time.

Task no 1: St. Andrew’s staff have worked very hard on a ‘Transition Sport’s Day’ which is being launched and going out to all schools today… all pupils which will be in your year if you’re attending St. Andrew’s! (Hope and Zara you can do this too as it’s fun, exercise and also good to have a nosey. I’m also going to send you an email with files from St. Benedict’s so check your GLOW).
So the sport’s day slide features bitmojis of different staff you will meet when you begin in St. Andrew’s in August. If you click on the exercises beside them you will be able to view a video of them doing a particular challenge which you can then do. Click on the link on GOOGLE classroom to access this. I’ll also email it to your GLOW.

Task no 2: Tomorrow at 2 o’clock we will have a TEAM MEET with Mrs McManus and Ms. Irvine (a teacher from St. Andrew’s). Please make sure you attend this meeting, you don’t need to speak but it really will be extremely useful for you to listen to what Ms Irvine has to say about you joining St. Andrew’s. If you have any questions write these down so that you can ask them during the meet. I will put an announcement on Facebook/Twitter to let your parents know that this is happening, they are more than welcome to sit with you and hear the information too.

Speak to you soon,
Mrs McDougall

P6 Home Tasks 3/6/20

Good Morning, I hope you enjoyed your first task learning about the continent of Africa and enjoying some of it’s music. It is such a large land area to cover with so many countries and famous landmarks, we will have to pick and choose what we learn about. Hopefully you will find something to love. Remember to tell me if there is anything specific you would like to cover.

As usual your tasks are posted in Google Classroom, here is a framework to follow;

Task 1 – Go Noodle – Get Loose, a short shake and brain break to get you going in the morning.

https://family.gonoodle.com/activities/i-get-loose?utm_content=teacher&utm_medium=772747&utm_campaign=share_link&utm_term=i-get-loose&utm_source=clipboard

Task 2- Writing – Write a short story using the image below to help your imagination. I have modelled a story for you to follow if you need some help.

Task 3– Take some time to create a Mindfulness toy. This craft idea is to create a mindfulness toy much like the ones used in school. You will need a clean jar, some glue, glitter and food colouring. Follow the instructions below and keep safe for times when you like to relax. Consider making one of these as a gift to a family member as an act of kindness. Think of things they may like to see in their glitter jar. Take a photo or describe what you have made.

Task 4Numeracy – Fractions (Equivalent Fractions) – Complete the worksheets using your fraction wall to help.

Task 5Health and Wellbeing – Use the template or create your own and record three things you are grateful for today. It can be small things like a smile, a hug from mum, but this task is to make you think about things you appreciate without realising. Remember to thank the person if it is a member of your family.

Task 6 – Dancing with Sam from RL Live at 3pm – follow the link below to take part in the dance class with Sam.

Primary 3 Daily Tasks 03/06/20

Wednesday 3_06_20

Good Morning Primary 3! Half way through the week. I hope we are all well and are enjoying the Virtual Classrooms. Today I have prepared another one for you.

You may have heard that over the weekend a very important rocket was launched from the Kenedy Space Centre in Florida, America. This rocket flew to the International Space Centre and that is why we are going on a school trip there today.

I hope you all have a great day

P2/3 Daily Plans Wednesday 03.06.20

Good morning everyone! Today we are going to start with prayers and then do some R.E. After you have a break, we will do some mental math and numeracy.  Finally after lunch, we will finish with some Handwriting, Free Play and P.E. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

School Prayer

L.I: we are learning about Pentecost and the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost happened 50 days after Easter Sunday. Jesus promised the disciples that the Holy Spirit would come and help them when He was gone. Jesus had gone back to Heaven, so the disciples were waiting to receive the Holy Spirit.

Tasks:

  • Watch the Bible story of Pentecost:

  • Think about this Bible story. Use these questions and discuss them with someone in your home.
  1. What strange noise came from the sky?
  2. What appeared above every disciple?
  3. What were they filled with?
  4. What could they do now, that they could not do before?
  5. Do you think they were glad to be filled with the Holy Spirit?

Break

Mental Maths

Counting in 5’s

Start from 0 and count to 35

Start from 45 and count to 80

Start from 75 and count to 100

Counting back in 5’s

Start at 30 and count back to 5

Start at 50 and count back to 20

Start at 85 and count back to 55

Sumdog – 15/20 minutes

Lunch

Mindfulness (10/15 mins)

Handwriting – Vv/Ww

Today we are staring with the letter Vv. It is very similar to the capital U that had practiced last time. This time instead of the bottom being curved, it will come to a point in the bottom line, like an arrow head. Once you get to the bottom, draw a straight line going back up to the top line. A small v looks the exact same but is smaller in size.

Next I would like you to write the letter Ww. For the capital you will need to start it the same way you did for the capital V, except this time when you get back to the top you need to write another V without lifting your pencil. Again, for the small w it is the exact same but much smaller in size.

Health and Wellbeing

Mrs McLaughlin has set you a task for your Health and Wellbeing today.

L.I: we are learning to create a daily menu for an astronaut in space. Tasks: 1. Read the following fact sheet:

Eating in Space Eating in microgravity can be very different than eating on Earth.

Credits: Fred Sayers

Imagine going camping for more than a week with several of your close friends. You would make sure you have plenty of food and the gear to cook and eat it with. The food would have to be stored properly and be non-perishable to avoid spoilage. After finishing your meal, or at the end of your camping trip, you would then stow all your gear and dispose of your trash properly just before the ride home.

Astronauts basically do the same thing when they go to space. Preparation varies with the food type. Some foods can be eaten in their natural forms, such as brownies and fruit. Other foods require adding water, such as macaroni and cheese or spaghetti. Of course, an oven is provided in the space station to heat foods to the proper temperature. There are no refrigerators in space, so space food must be stored and prepared properly to avoid spoilage, especially on longer missions.

Condiments, such as ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, are provided. Salt and pepper are available but only in a liquid form. This is because astronauts can’t sprinkle salt and pepper on their food in space. The salt and pepper would simply float away. There is a danger they could clog air vents, contaminate equipment, or get stuck in an astronaut’s eyes, mouth, or nose.

Astronauts eat three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Nutritionists ensure the food astronauts eat provides them with a balanced supply of vitamins and minerals. Calorie requirements differ for astronauts. For instance, a small woman would require only about 1,900 calories a day, while a large man would require about 3,200 calories. An astronaut can choose from many types of foods such as fruits, nuts, peanut butter, chicken, beef, seafood, candy, brownies, etc. Available drinks include coffee, tea, orange juice, fruit punches and lemonade.

As on Earth, space food comes in disposable packages. Astronauts must throw their packages away when they have finished eating. Some packaging prevents food from flying away. The food packaging is designed to be flexible and easier to use, as well as to maximize space when stowing or disposing of food containers.

  1. Watch the following video clips discussing what food you eat is space: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7z3iA1Iruw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnmA35ibSMY
  2. Create a daily menu (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner) for the astronauts to eat. Think about the Eatwell Guide we have been using and what you need for a healthy diet. Think about the packaging, what foods can the astronauts take into space?

I can’t wait to read your astronomical menus!
