Primary 4 Home Learning 05.06.2020

Good morning everyone. It’s Friday! Well done for all of your hard work this week. I think Space week has been a huge success. I have learned lots so I hope you have too. Next week our theme will be Japan because this was the most popular choice when I asked you last week.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Mrs Cryans x

We usually begin our Friday Mornings with some activities and play. You could build, create, draw, role play. It’s up to you. Try to take time to do this today.

Health and Wellbeing

We have taken part in lots of Space themed workouts this week. Why don’t you choose your favourite one to do today?

  • This is a link to some Space themed Cosmic Yoga

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9W8iV4AJYQ

  • Name workout – Instead of spelling your name, have a go at spelling out your space themed spelling words. You don’t have to do them all. Just choose a few, otherwise you will be exhausted.

  • Have a go at some Space themed yoga this morning. There are lots of poses to choose from. Could you make up your own Space themed yoga routine?

Mindfulness task

You can choose any way you wish to be mindful today.

Let me know if you can create a new strategy that we haven’t tried.

Listening and Talking

On Monday you watched a video from the International Space Station – Harmony, Tranquility and Unity. Today you can choose one of the other 3 videos to watch and discuss with someone at home.

Social Studies

Today we are learning about the Solar System. Did you listen to the wee song I asked you to the other day? I can always remember facts easier if they are in a song that I can sing.

We are going on a Solar System Fact Hunt. Try your best to answer the questions and read any sources carefully.

Fact Hunt

You can use the internet, any books you may have or these fact cards to find your answers.

Fact Cards

Design

Today you have been learning about the planets in the Solar System. Now it’s your chance to design your own. Take your time and think carefully about your design.

STEM

This afternoon you are going to make a rocket in a different way. This time you are going to need an empty squeezy bottle.

Here is the science behind the idea;

Think about a space rocket taking off. The rocket’s action is to push down on the ground with the force of it’s engines, the equal upwards force pushes the rocket up or if you think about air coming out of a balloon, the air is being forced downwards yet the balloon flies upwards.

In the case of our squeezy bottle rockets, as you squeeze the bottle, air is forced out of the straw and pushes against whatever you have sealing the top of the larger straw, this force causes the straw to “fly” through the air.

HOW TO MAKE A SQUEEZY BOTTLE ROCKET

Materials

  • Empty Squeezy water bottles
  • Cardboard
  • Straws
  • Scissors
  • Glue/sellotape
  • Blue tack
  • Plasticine

.

INSTRUCTIONS

FOR THE BOTTLE

Lift up the sports cap and push in half a straw, seal around it with blu tack.

Squeeze the bottle and make sure air is coming out of the top of the straw, not the sides.

FOR THE ROCKET

Draw and cut out a cardboard rocket.

Seal one end of a larger straw than the one in the bottle with sellotape.

Attach the rocket onto one side of the straw.

Just for fun

I’m not sure if it will be sunny enough to try this today or not. If you don’t try it today you could try it another time. Sorry the pictures are a bit blurry. I can’t seem to get them any clearer. I will put another version on Google Classroom, but it won’t let me put it on here.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

P7 home learning tasks for Friday 5th June

Good morning and Happy Friday!

Bitmoji Image

I hope you had a good day yesterday and enjoyed seeing the staff from St. Andrew’s on both the transition sport’s day slides and Ms. Irvine on the TEAM Meet. I had never met Ms. Irvine before but she was on the phone for a while and sounded so friendly and funny. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get on the meeting as well but thought it was much more important you got to meet Ms. Irvine. We can arrange another one for next week 🙂

Enjoy your tasks for today. I cannot wait to read some of your writing pieces about our NHS keyworkers.
A fun wee art task/craft for you to do today too (with the help of an adult). Remember to upload your tasks and let me see your progress.

Friday 5th June

P6 Home Learning 4/6/20

Good morning, I hope everyone is in good spirits and keeping their vocal chords tuned for their entries to the school online show. Tomorrow is the last day for entries and a quick reminder that P6 can choose any song from the musical Mama Mia. If you are undecided about your song, don’t worry, I have attached a link to a website with music and lyrics (below).

https://www.stlyrics.com/m/mammamia.htm

Your tasks are posted in Google Classroom, here is a plan for the day;

Task 1 – Exercise with Joe.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

Task 2 – Grammar – Complete the Jolly Grammar worksheet for your spelling group.

Task 3 – Go Noodle Brainbreak.

https://family.gonoodle.com/activities/chicken-dance?utm_content=teacher&utm_medium=772747&utm_campaign=share_link&utm_term=chicken-dance&utm_source=clipboard

Task 4 – Maths – Fractions of an amount. – I have tried to explain and attached a chilli challenge worksheet.

Task 5 – Homemade Lunch Pizza– This is a basic recipe which I use myself to make a simple pizza base some lunchtimes (you might need to ask a family member to get some of the ingredients).

You will need;

  • equal quantities of flour (I use whatever I have in the cupboard, usually self raising) and plain yoghurt (greek yoghurt, creme fraiche, sour cream)
  • a teaspoon salt
  • a tablespoon oil

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl (a half cup of flour / yoghurt should be enough to make 4 saucer sized mini pizza) until you have a non-sticky dough. Use your hands to get all the ingredients mixed together. Leave to sit to 20 min for the dough to rest. Kneed the dough again for a few minutes and split in to 4. Roll out using a little flour and place on a baking tray.

For the base I use some tomato paste mixed with tomato sauce, spread a layer (not too much or it will get soggy) on to the base, grate any cheese on top and add anything else you fancy. Tuna and onion is tasty, so also is thinly sliced ham and sweetcorn. You can change the base using barbecue sauce which will give a lovely sweet version.

Bake your mini pizza for around 10-15 min at 180, keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t burn. Serve and enjoy.

My explanation makes this sound really long, but it genuinely only takes minutes (sometimes I only rest the dough for a few minutes).

Have a go and send me some pictures.

Task 6 – Africa – Animals and terrain.

From completing the task on Tuesday, you now know that Africa is a Continent made up of 54 separate countries. Look at the map which is attached and pay attention to the key.
There are deserts, savannah, rainforest and mountain terrains.
Can you research the differences between the terrains and the type of animals you would find there. Note down what you find, then choose 1 animal to focus on from each terrain.

Use a sheet of paper fold it in 4 and create a colourful information leaflet with key points in each section.

Remember to explain why the animals live in that terrain, what country it is and how the animals adapted? I have included some music to listen to get you in the spirit of Africa.

These tasks should keep you busy today, if you get stuck remember to keep in contact. I’m looking forward to the 2pm chat tomorrow on Teams.

P7 home learning tasks for Thursday 4th June 2020

Good morning children…

Bitmoji Image
No lesson plan today as you have two tasks to do that will take up a good bit of your time.

Task no 1: St. Andrew’s staff have worked very hard on a ‘Transition Sport’s Day’ which is being launched and going out to all schools today… all pupils which will be in your year if you’re attending St. Andrew’s! (Hope and Zara you can do this too as it’s fun, exercise and also good to have a nosey. I’m also going to send you an email with files from St. Benedict’s so check your GLOW).
So the sport’s day slide features bitmojis of different staff you will meet when you begin in St. Andrew’s in August. If you click on the exercises beside them you will be able to view a video of them doing a particular challenge which you can then do. Click on the link on GOOGLE classroom to access this. I’ll also email it to your GLOW.

Task no 2: Tomorrow at 2 o’clock we will have a TEAM MEET with Mrs McManus and Ms. Irvine (a teacher from St. Andrew’s). Please make sure you attend this meeting, you don’t need to speak but it really will be extremely useful for you to listen to what Ms Irvine has to say about you joining St. Andrew’s. If you have any questions write these down so that you can ask them during the meet. I will put an announcement on Facebook/Twitter to let your parents know that this is happening, they are more than welcome to sit with you and hear the information too.

Speak to you soon,
