Since August 2007 all School Boards in Scotland have been replaced by new Parent Councils. Parent Councils are made up from representatives from the Parent Forum (all parents and carers of pupils in the school) and some co-opted members. In the case of a denominational school, such as St Fergus, one of the co-opted members must be a representative from the Church.
Role of the Parent Council
Actively support parental involvement in the life of the school. Provide opportunities for parents to express their views on children’s education. Receive information and advice on matters affecting their children’s education. Influence decisions, be listened to and taken seriously. Participate in recruitment of Head Teacher. Make representation to the Education Authority on issues outwith the control of the Head Teacher such as school closures or changes to catchment areas.
