Good morning everyone! Today we are going to start with prayers and then do some R.E. After you have a break, we will do some mental math and numeracy.  Finally after lunch, we will finish with some Handwriting, Free Play and P.E. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

School Prayer

L.I: we are learning about Pentecost and the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost happened 50 days after Easter Sunday. Jesus promised the disciples that the Holy Spirit would come and help them when He was gone. Jesus had gone back to Heaven, so the disciples were waiting to receive the Holy Spirit.

Tasks:

  • Watch the Bible story of Pentecost:

  • Think about this Bible story. Use these questions and discuss them with someone in your home.
  1. What strange noise came from the sky?
  2. What appeared above every disciple?
  3. What were they filled with?
  4. What could they do now, that they could not do before?
  5. Do you think they were glad to be filled with the Holy Spirit?

Handwriting – Vv/Ww

Today we are staring with the letter Vv. It is very similar to the capital U that had practiced last time. This time instead of the bottom being curved, it will come to a point in the bottom line, like an arrow head. Once you get to the bottom, draw a straight line going back up to the top line. A small v looks the exact same but is smaller in size.

Next I would like you to write the letter Ww. For the capital you will need to start it the same way you did for the capital V, except this time when you get back to the top you need to write another V without lifting your pencil. Again, for the small w it is the exact same but much smaller in size.

Our reading comprehension is about safety in the sun, at the beach and in the sea. As we enter summer and might be allowed to travel further to beaches it is important we know how to stay safe.

I want you to retell the boy’s adventure. It is a simple story, but I want you to make it as exciting as possible. Describe the boy, his rocket, the planet, the journey and the alien. Think about how the rocket moves, could you use adverbs?

L.I: we are learning to create a daily menu for an astronaut in space. Tasks: 1. Read the following fact sheet:

 

Eating in Space Eating in microgravity can be very different than eating on Earth.

Imagine going camping for more than a week with several of your close friends. You would make sure you have plenty of food and the gear to cook and eat it with. The food would have to be stored properly and be non-perishable to avoid spoilage. After finishing your meal, or at the end of your camping trip, you would then stow all your gear and dispose of your trash properly just before the ride home.

Astronauts basically do the same thing when they go to space. Preparation varies with the food type. Some foods can be eaten in their natural forms, such as brownies and fruit. Other foods require adding water, such as macaroni and cheese or spaghetti. Of course, an oven is provided in the space station to heat foods to the proper temperature. There are no refrigerators in space, so space food must be stored and prepared properly to avoid spoilage, especially on longer missions.

Condiments, such as ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, are provided. Salt and pepper are available but only in a liquid form. This is because astronauts can’t sprinkle salt and pepper on their food in space. The salt and pepper would simply float away. There is a danger they could clog air vents, contaminate equipment, or get stuck in an astronaut’s eyes, mouth, or nose.

Astronauts eat three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Nutritionists ensure the food astronauts eat provides them with a balanced supply of vitamins and minerals. Calorie requirements differ for astronauts. For instance, a small woman would require only about 1,900 calories a day, while a large man would require about 3,200 calories. An astronaut can choose from many types of foods such as fruits, nuts, peanut butter, chicken, beef, seafood, candy, brownies, etc. Available drinks include coffee, tea, orange juice, fruit punches and lemonade.

As on Earth, space food comes in disposable packages. Astronauts must throw their packages away when they have finished eating. Some packaging prevents food from flying away. The food packaging is designed to be flexible and easier to use, as well as to maximize space when stowing or disposing of food containers.

Task 4 – Maths – Equivalent Fractions – watch the two video clips to help revise what you understand about equivalent fractions. Use the fraction wall you made yesterday, or the one I’ve attached to complete the worksheet and finally exercise 3 & 4 from the booklet.

Task 5 – Mindfulness Task – Understanding  yourself. Sometimes we live with people (brothers and sisters) who we think we know really well, but we can often become complacent  and never really speak to them, today’s task should help with this.

Look at the list of questions and the template for the Fortune Teller. Choose some questions and fill the template with them, now go and get a family member to ask you the questions and you can ask them.

Task 6 – Africa Mini Topic.

First we need to investigate facts about Africa;
Where is Africa?
Is it a country?
How many people live there?
What size is it, in comparison to Scotland?
What is the weather like?
Can you create a colourful factfile or an A4 sized word document with the information you have found?
You have a map page to label and colour to add to the factfile which will help with information.

Once you find out how much it costs. Try to write down the coins that you would need to make this amount. Don’t worry if you find this tricky, I am looking for you to challenge yourself.

Literacy:

Today’s task is some writing. I would like you to write a story based on one of the images below the success criteria.

Success Criteria:

  • Describe the setting using your senses what does it look like, smell like, feel like…
  • Describe the characters using the FANTASTICS
  • write in third person (he, she, they). I don’t want you to use I.
  • Give your story a beginning, middle and end, remember there has to be a main event!
  • Use the FANTASTICS throughout
  • Use good punctuation
  • Try to use smilies, metaphors, onomatopoeia, rhyme, alliteration

Use this as a check list when checking your writing. Here are the pictures you are to use, choose one to base your story on.

Numeracy:

Today’s challenge is a little different.

I am going to give you a list of numbers and you have to come up with as many questions as you can.
