P7 home learning tasks for 11th June 2020

Good morning everyone,

aloha

I hope you had a nice cosy day indoors yesterday! The weather was awful, I was outside for all of 2 minutes to take the bins in and that was enough for me! It’s to be brighter today- make the most of it by getting out for some exercise and fresh air. Cameron and I are going to go and visit my mum later on after school and sit in her garden for a wee social distanced picnic.

Your tasks for today are below. I’ve attached a powerpoint to the GOOGLE classroom that I would like you to work your way through for your reading task- it’s related to the current anti racism protests going on around the world. If you can’t access the version on the classroom please email me and I will email you a copy of the powerpoint, it’s too large to upload to this blog.

Have a good day and keep in touch as always 🙂

Primary 4 Home Learning Thursday 11.06.2020

Good morning Primary 4. I hope you are all having a good week and enjoying your Japanese themed tasks. You have sent me some fantastic work so far. Let’s keep it up. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Mrs Cryans x

Health and Wellbeing

Japanese children often do Radio Taisou, a famous and common type of exercises that is regularly done in the mornings and before and after gym classes or swimming lessons.  It is a set of exercises carried out to music. Some teachers use these exercises between classes when students get tired of studying to refresh the students’ ability to focus. These exercises are designed to use all types of muscles, but are not too strenuous so even elderly people can use them. The exercises also teach the basic skills of rhythm and counting to young students.

Here is a video of children taking part. Maybe you could join in?

Reading Comprehension

Today we will read the final chapters of ‘Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A94nURpxhFE Chapter 7-9

Here are some comprehension questions for you to answer. Remember that these questions will check how much you have understood of what you have read today.

Chapter 7 questions

Creative time

On Monday you had a go at some basic origami and made a little cat. Today’s origami task is a bit more challenging.

Today you are going to follow a tutorial on how to make a crane, just like Sadako did.

Click on the link for the tutorial.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-QsLNS0TyY

Numeracy

Today I have set you a SumDog challenge. You will be working on Data Handling. You will be working with tables and graphs. I will reward 50 coins to everyone who has a go at this challenge and 100 coins to the person who answers the most correct questions!! Mia and Hayden won 100 coins each last week. Who will win them today? Have fun!

Social Studies

Today we are going to be learning about an important figure in both Scottish and Japanese history, Thomas Blake Glover.

ICT-Research task

Use your research skills to find out who he was and why he is an important person in Scottish and Japanese history.

Here is a template to help you.

 cfe-h-22-thomas-blake-glover-significant-individual-writing-frames

Something extra

Did you know that in Japanese schools, the children are responsible for the cleaning and tidying up? There are no cleaners or Janitors to do this for the children. Could you imagine hoovering, mopping and wiping down our classroom, toilets and kitchen?

Here is a wee video to show you how this is done.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv4oNvxCY5k

Today I would like you to help out a little more around the house. You could hoover, do the dishes, dust, mop and tidy. Could you send me a picture of you doing this?

Mindfulness

Today for Mindfulness your task is to create a Zen Garden. In Japan Creating a Zen garden is a great way to reduce stress, improve your focus, and develop a sense of well-being.

Here is how you can make your own miniature version.

SUPPLIES

Something to use as a rake. We used a mini back scratcher (which worked perfectly!), a wooden fork and made our own with wooden skewers (more on that below)

START YOUR ZEN GARDEN

  1. Pick out your containers. We made sure to use containers that wouldn’t easily break. We chose a lid from a photo box, a photo scrapbooking container with a lid, which is great because you can close the lid and make it portable, and an old plastic plate that I used when my daughter was younger(a great way to use what you already have!).

If you choose to use a shallow cardboard box, you might want to tape around the bottom and sides to prevent the sand from leaking through.

  1. Choose your sand colors.

If you use sand that you collect from the beach make sure to pick out all the debris, rinse it in a fine mesh strainer and let it dry completely before pouring into your containers.

  1. Fill your containers, but don’t fill them too much. You want to be able to make designs in your sand with a rake and not have any sand spill out.
  2. Choose your zen garden accessories. This is the fun part! You can use rocks, crystals, driftwood or anything else you think would be appropriate. Mini statues or small toys, even air dry plants that are in more traditional zen gardens. Have fun placing your items in your containers.
  3. Time for your rakes! You can use a fork or maybe make a fork from tooth picks or sticks.
  4. Now you can play around with making patterns in the sand.

P6 Home Learning 10/6/20

Good morning P6, its is a much colder and wet day than we have become used to, hopefully it will dry up for the afternoon and you can get outside for a while. Your tasks for today re posted in Google Classroom and I have made a plan to follow below;

Task 1 – School Prayer – take some time to think of your friends and family and just as we would do in school, say your St Fergus’ Prayer to ask for their protection through this strange time.

Task 2 – Exercise – any exercise you want to do for 30 min, it will get your brain and body working for the day. Below is the link to Joe Wicks.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

Task 3 – Writing – Using Fronted Adverbials – instructions are in Classroom. Replicate yesterday’s task but this time use fronted adverbials to make your sentences more engaging for your reader. Watch the video clip for some examples.

Task 4 – Health and Wellbeing – Joy – Take a photo of a person, a place or an item which brings you joy! If you can, upload it with an explanation of what it is and why.

This is mine.

Task 5 – Go Noodle –  Join in with the stretching and release any tension you have in your body.

https://family.gonoodle.com/activities/star-of-the-show?utm_content=teacher&utm_medium=772747&utm_campaign=share_link&utm_term=star-of-the-show&utm_source=clipboard

Task 6 – Maths – Adding and subtracting fractions – Revision of previous work, watch the video clip and complete the worksheets.

Task 7 – STEM activity – Does the design of football boots improve their performance? Watch the video clip and then create your own design.

I’m not in school today so message me at any time, I’ll be looking over previous work so you’ll hear from me throughout the day. Have a good day.

L.I: we are learning to explore how the Holy Spirit helps us in our lives.

Think about times when it is easy to say yes, e.g. when you are offered sweets, when you are asked to a party. Think about times when it is difficult to say yes, e.g. when we have to go to bed, when you need to tidy your room. We often need to make choices and sometimes we do not know what to do and have to think about it very carefully.  The Holy Spirit can help us to make good choices every day and live like Jesus.
