Relaunch of School Houses

This week at Cochrane Castle we relaunched our School Houses.

After many suggestions from our families, the children in school finally settled on the theme of precious stones for the House names.  Our Houses are now Topaz (yellow), Sapphire (Blue), Ruby (Red) and Emerald (Green).

Our new House Captains are –

Finlay Rayner – Topaz

Kelsey Alexander – Emerald

Brooke Fielding – Sapphire

Charlie Campbell – Ruby

Our first points tally will be given on Monday with the winning house for the month of December receiving a house prize in January.  Our house prizes will be chosen by the children and the House Captains will report back to Mrs McLeod.

The children have been trying extremely hard this week to gain as many house points as possible as they all know – ‘What do points make…PRIZES!’

Good luck to all the houses for the month of December and the rest of the school year.

Keep Safe Kids App

Today is the launch of Renfrewshire Council’s new App – Keep Safe Kids.

The App was developed by more than 60 pupils from six schools and charity I Am Me Scotland, the app is also packed with help and information for you as a parent or carer.

Keep Safe Kids app is a new way for children and young people in Renfrewshire to:
-find health and wellbeing support
-report bullying and wellbeing concerns

All reports made through the app are sent directly to the school and will be picked up in the normal way during school hours.
Reports can be made anonymously and at any time of day. Information is not stored on the app meaning your data is secure.

The App has been designed to keep our children Safe and Supported. It’s about supporting each other and for encouraging everyone to be kind.

Download the Keep Safe Kids app from iOs and Android.

The Final version of the App has been uploaded to the App stores, so please download the new version onto your phones/tablets as this is the one we will be using. The App is available from Apple and Google – Keep Safe Kids.

CCPS Fleeces and Jackets

We have purchased school fleeces and jackets for every child in the school.  They are of a very high quality and the children are very pleased with the new additions. These items will be kept in school and we have a cleaning rota to keep them clean and fresh.

Due to spending an increased amount of time outdoors and because we keep the windows of our classes open to meet covid regulations, we felt the fleeces would be an invaluable extra layer of warmth for the children.

We also bought waterproof, fleece lined jackets for the children to wear outside for either activities with their class or during break or lunch time.  We felt this would be a welcome alternative to their own winter jacket and stop so many parents having to wash jackets on a daily basis!

There is no requirement for your child to wear the school provided items at break or lunch but when they head out on a school activity with their class, everyone will wear the same jacket to help identify our pupils.

Lots of the children opted to wear their new fleece at break today and it was lovely to see so many children taking pride in their school and running around with the Cochrane Castle badge on display!

School Day

A letter has been sent home in the pupils’ bags today to advise that we are reverting back to our more traditional start and finish times.

Please see attached. School Day

9.00 am start and 3.00 pm finish for every class in the school as of Monday 8 November.

We will offer an early entry to our Primary 1 – Primary 3 pupils, opening the doors for them at 8.50 am (depending on staffing levels)

Cochrane Castle School Values

Cochrane Castle School Values

Since returning from the Spring holiday we have re-established our school assemblies and our focus has been on the school values. Due to current restrictions our assemblies are taking place outside and with half the school at a time.

We feel that the disjointed year we have experienced has resulted in a loss of the community feel in the school and it is important to us that we have school celebrations and opportunities to come together as often as possible.  Our school community is built on our school values and we want to ensure that those permeate through everything that the Cochrane Castle Community does and that the children use those values to guide their thinking and their behaviour.  For that to happen our values need to resonate in our children’s lives both at school and at home.

We are working as a staff to establish a consistent and purposeful way of celebrating and teaching our school values.  As a result of that work you and your children will be sent a questionnaire on the school values that I would like you to complete.  The results of the questionnaire will help guide our next steps in relation to our school values.

If you have any questions regarding our values, then please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office.

Yours sincerely

End of term – Thursday 1st April

Good afternoon everyone,

Tomorrow is the final day of the term and as a result we will have a non-uniform day for all the children.

We also finish earlier than normal tomorrow but our staggered finish times will remain in place. Every class will finish half an hour earlier than normal. Each year group will finish at the following times:

Primary 1 – 2.25pm
Primary 2 – 2.20pm
Primary 3 – 2.15pm
Primary 4 – 2.30pm
Primary 5 – 2.25pm
Primary 6 – 2.20pm
Primary 7 – 2.15pm

This has been another unusual term in what has been a very challenging last year for everyone. I would like to thank all of you for your continued support and for all your efforts while supporting the teaching and learning of your children at home.

I hope you and your families have a lovely Spring Holiday and that everyone returns to school safely on Monday 19th April. Staggered start times on return to school will continue.

Take care

Mr Graeme Mothersole
