Sounds

‘au’ (Paul, applaud, because etc). Please read aloud the ‘au’ words EVERY night from the booklet containing the sounds we have been learning this term. Your child has this in their reading folder.

Spelling

Can write the words in small and capital letters using the 5 rules of spelling?

children, city, close, colour.

Can you spot any common words in a book, comic or magazine?

Reading

Please talk to your child about what is happening in the story using the pictures and text. Discuss any difficult vocabulary and what it means. Ask questions like –  What do you think will happen next? Why did the character do/say that? How did they feel? Why? What happened at the beginning/middle/end of the story? Can you tell me the story again yourself?

Handwriting – mM, nN, pP, rR.

Practise small and capitals, completing at least one row of each letter in your jotter. Please ensure the letters start at the correct position, are formed correctly and are the correct size in relation to the lines in the jotter.

Maths

Try putting out different coins (no more than £1) and ask the children to count how much is there. Always start with the biggest value coin first. When confident introduce £’s as well as the silver and copper coins.

Today we were learning our Fench numbers. We also learned a French song and used the instruments to accompany it. 

A reminder that tomorrow is Sports Day. Please come to school dressed in your sports clothes ready to start at 9.10am sharp. Bring a bottle of water too.

Homework/Sports Day w/b 20.5.19

This Wednesday (22.5.19) is Sports Day. The children should come to school dressed in their sports clothes (jogging trousers, leggings, t-shirts, trainers etc) and bring a bottle of water. ‘All Star Fitness’ will be bringing their equipment and the children will rotate round each station throughout the day. They will be outdoors for most of the  day (weather permitting) so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately. Parents are welcome to come along at any point and spectate.

Homework – Sounds

We will be revising all the sounds we have learned recently so practise reading aloud these sounds in your booklet,

u-e (cute), ew, ue (blue)

ow (owl), ou (count)

oy, oi and aw

Look in any text to find all the recent common words from your sheet.

Spelling

Practise your spelling words in small and then capital letters.

Try the ‘doubles’ game too trying’ up to 10′ first. If good try harder doubles.

Write a sentence using each word. Remember to use capitals and full stops and perhaps a joining words too. Make sure your writing is neat as well.

Maths

We have been focusing on subtraction sums. Make up some take away sums starting with numbers  no bigger than 10, for example 8 – 3 = ?, 10 – 4 = ? etc. Then move on to numbers between 10 and 20, for example 13 – 6 = ?, 17 – 10 = ? etc.

We used our tens and units to help us do larger subtraction sums. We learned that if we know 9 – 4 = 5, then we can work out 19 – 4 = 15 and 29 – 4 = 25.

After that we played subtraction games on the i- pads or the computers.
