The spelling words are;

see, for, now.

  • try writing each word on a partner’s back.

  • write the word in the air.

Reading

Practice your book every night. Ask and answer questions about the story to help understanding.

We will be working on using our number facts to help us with larger sums eg – practise some like these.  Talk about the pattern.

3+4=7

13+4=17

23+4=27

33+4=37

We will also be learning about 2-D shapes.  Complete the worksheet and stick it in your jotter.

Topic

We have been learning about St.  Andrew.  Tell the story of his life to someone and draw and write about it.

25.11.16

Today we priced the ‘Reindeer Noses’ our class made to sell at the Christmas Fayre.  We had to work out the cost of the materials we used  and come up with suggestions for prices.  It was quite tricky.  We couldn’t make the price too high or no-one could afford them.  We couldn’t sell them for too little or we wouldn’t make a profit.  We decided that 50p was a fair price.  Don’t forget to come along to our Christmas Fayre tomorrow between 10am and 12 noon and buy lots of great Christmas things.

imageimageWe also sorted out the 3-D shapes that did or did not have corners.  We counted the number of corners each shape had and recorded our answers on a chart.

Today we were making ‘Reindeer Noses’ to sell at the Christmas Fayre.  We had to do a lot of jobs to make our business idea work.  First we had to come up with a good idea.  Then we had to get all the materials we needed and make a production line to package it all.  Now that the finished item is ready for sale we will need to work out costs and price it so that we make a profit.  Phew, what a lot of work goes into running a successful business!  Make sure you get to the Christmas Fayre early this Saturday (10am- 12 noon) to purchase lots of treats and Christmas gifts.

Read, Write and Count bags.

Your child will be coming home with a ‘Read, Write and Count ‘ bag.  There are lots of fun activities in literacy and numeracy for both you and your child to explore.   Spend time each night doing one of the activities and the bag and its contents are yours to keep.  Have fun together learning!

Homework for w/b 14.11.16

Literacy

This week’s sound is magic ‘i-e’. How many ‘i-e’ words can you think of? Can you find any in a book? Make a list and add to it each time you find another ‘i-e’ word. Read your list out loud every day. Try this game http://www.galacticphonics.com/longvowels/i-e/interactive/i-ematchup.htm

Complete the worksheet and stick it in your jotter.

Reading -We will be working on understanding a text by questioning (who, what, where, when, why). Talk to your child about the events in their reading books and ask them some questions. Read a favourite bedtime story and ask questions. Can your child give you a ‘who, what, where, when or why’ question? They may wish to record their answers by writing them down remembering capitals and full stops.

Spelling

This week’s spelling words are;

  • then, them, with.

Use the 5 rules of spelling (Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check) and write each word 3 times in ‘waterfall’ writing eg

t

th

the

then

Maths

We will be continuing to learn more about 3-D shapes (cube, cuboid, pyramid, cone, cylinder and sphere) and how shapes have ‘faces’. Go on a shape hunt around your house. Find items that are each shape. Draw each item, label it with the shape name, count the ‘faces’ on each shape and record this beside your picture.

RME

We will be working on the theme of ‘sharing’. Encourage your child to share something with others in your family (a toy, sweets, their learning etc). Talk about ways to share things fairly. Recall times when they shared something and draw a picture or take a photograph to stick in your jotter.
