Homework 24.4.18

Maths

We are learning to take numbers away and the different words used which mean ‘take away’. Ask your child some problems eg ‘What is 10 take away 4?’   ‘?=7-5’   ‘2 less than 8’  ‘5 fewer than 10’  ‘9 subtract 5’ etc. Do LOTS of similar examples orally and practise some EVERY day to get quicker and more accurate. Try writing some in your jotter too.

Sounds

This week’s sound is magic ‘u-e’ (cube, rude, flute etc). Practise reading the ‘u-e’ words highlighted in yellow at the back of your homework jotter.

Complete the ‘u-e’ worksheet and stick it in your jotter.

Spelling

This week’s words are; was, you, her, she, they.

Use the 5 rules of spelling (LOOK, SAY, COVER, WRITE and CHECK).

Write each word in small and then capital letters 3 times.

Reading

Practise your book every night and ask your child questions to check their understanding. If the book has a contents, index or glossary, talk about them and see if your child can find answers to your questions eg ‘What page is _____ on?’ See if they can prove they are right by finding the page with the answer on it. ‘What does (a particular word) mean?’ ‘What pages tell you about _____?’ etc.

Common Reading Words

Practise reading your words in yellow from the word wall at the back of your jotter and any words from your word wallet. Do this EVERY night.

Handwriting

Practise forming the letters ‘b, h, k, m, n, p and r’ correctly. Make sure your child starts at the right place and writes each letter the correct size (tall letters twice as big as small ones).

Write a whole row of each one in small and capital letters.

Sounds

We will be revising ‘ow’ (snow, glow etc) and introducing ‘ew’ (few, blew, grew etc). Practise reading the words highlighted in pink and green at the back of your homework jotter.

Select the bar at the right marked ‘vowel phonemes’ and choose ‘ew’. Then select ‘alphabet’ also to allow you to spell the words
