Number – Greater/ Less Than

Warm Up

Numbers that are ‘greater than‘ means they are bigger.
Numbers that are ‘less than‘ means they are smaller.

This poster shows we can use a special symbol instead of writing the words ‘greater than’ or ‘less than’ as well as the ‘equals’ sign.

Data Handling – Recording Information

Warm Up

We can collect and find out information from charts and tables. In this clip we are going to find out how to conduct a survey about favourite pets and record the answers in a tick chart.

Main Task

Here are the results of a survey about favourite ice creams. The information is recorded on a chart with a tick. Look at all the different flavours written down the side. When a person  chooses a flavour as their favourite it is recorded with a tick beside it.

Use the chart above to answer these questions. Write your answers in your jotter.

Challenge

Can you make a survey in your family about favourite things. It could be about favourite colours, fruit, sweets or anything else. Record the answers in a tick chart, a bit like the one above about favourite ice creams.

Syllables

Spoken words can be broken into syllables or parts. Watch this clip about syllables.

Say your name out loud and count how many syllables your name has. Say all the names of everyone in your family, clapping out the syllables. Who has the most or least syllables in their name?

Divide a page in your jotter into 3 columns. Say the words at the bottom of this worksheet out loud. How many syllables does each word have? Draw the picture and write the word in the correct column to show how many syllables it has.

Warm Up

Fairytales are stories that can be set in imaginative places, with good and bad characters and usually a problem that has to be solved before there is a happy ending.

Watch this clip to help you write your own fairytale.

Main Task

Read along with this ‘Jack and The Beanstalk’ book.

As you read the book think about WHERE the story takes place, WHO the good and bad characters are, WHAT happens and how does it END? 

Now you are going to write your own fairytale in a setting of your choice, with your own charcters and events that happen.

Make a plan in your jotter and jot down some important words  or drawings. Remember to include all of these things:

Here are some ideas of WHERE your story might take place (the setting), WHO the good and bad characters might be and some magical items that be in your story (the PROPS). You don’t have to use these ideas, you can use your own imagination.

Write your own story and read it aloud to a grown up. Draw a picture too.

You are now going to read a fiction book about space that I have assigned you on the Epic reading site by clicking the image below. Remember to check your mailbox if the book does not appear on the screen.

Main Task

After reading your book you are going to write a book review. Think about where the story took place (setting) and who were the main characters.

Then think about what the main thing that happened was at the beginning (first), middle, (next) and the end (last) of the story.

Draw some pictures showing who was in the story, where they were and what happened too.

Main Task

Draw these groups or sets of objects in your jotter and write the number you added repeatedly under each picture with the answer beside it.

Number – Addition

Watch this clip about how a number can be split  into two and when you add both numbers together you get the total. Learn about maths mountains and how to work out the total. The ‘total’ or ‘sum’ is always at the top of the mountain.
