Phonemes
This week we will be learning the phonemes ou (shout) and ow (now)
and next week will be learning the oi (foil) and oy (joy)
Why not try to make sentences with as many words as you can?
Challenge – in your jotter, write sentences using your phoneme and spelling words.
Common words:
- Keep practising the words you have been learning to read and write sentences using them.
- Can you find any of these words in your reading book?

- Take the sight word challenge. How many words can you read confidently?
Reading
A new reading book will now usually be given each Wednesday. The days for reading are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so please make sure that pupils have their reading books in their bags so that they can complete reading activities.
- Try telling an adult the main points of the story in order.
- Challenge – draw a comic strip of the Beginning, Middle and End important points of the story.

Maths – Time
This term we will be learning about different aspects of time – we are now moving on to identifying the time in hours and half hours on analogue and 12 hour digital clocks.
Time at home- Find some different places at home that show dates (e.g. TV guides, computer, mobile phone, computer etc.) and record these in your jotter by writing and drawing pictures. Challenge -why do the publications or time pieces show the date?
How long does it take? – Children think of things they do at home which they estimate will take about a second, a minute or an hour. Make up a table and record ideas under the different headings:

To link in with the Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, why not…….
- Choose a sport, find out about it and write a factfile.
- Find out about a famous Olympian – write a summary about them and illustrate your work.
- If you want to work on your own Olympic topic then feel free – show us what you come up with and bring it into school.
