At St. Andrew’s High School we believe in taking every opportunity to celebrate the many successes of our students. We recognise that all young people have special talents, which need to be nurtured and developed during their time with us. We believe it is important to celebrate achievement and regularly praise students for doing well and showing commitment to their chosen activities both within and outside of school.

Pupils representing Scotland in Gaelic Football
We are delighted to have Aidan Barlow (3.10) & Melissa Kerr (3.7)away representing the Scotland Team in Gaelic Football at the Feile2016 in Ireland. Both pupils were chosen through the various trials where the standard of football was extremely high. Both Aidan and Melissa are outstanding Gaelic Footballers and this is the second year in a row for both pupils to be chosen to represent the Scotland team. Aidan and Melissa are both members of the local Coatbridge Davitts team with Melissa serving as team captain for Scotland this year. Congratulations and well done to Aidan and Melissa from all in St. Andrew’s High school.

S2 Design & Applied Technology Faculty Logo Competition
Over the past few weeks our S2 pupils have been designing logos that can represent our Faculty of Art, Home Economics and Technical. A fantastic effort was displayed by all. Our winners was Olivia Wells from class 2N who worked hard in designing a fantastic logo.
Our runners up in the competition were Connor McGuire 2E and Sophie Frew 2L! Well done to all involved in the competition for your hard work and creative ideas.
Social Subjects celebrate Cross Cutting Themes Week
S2 pupils in Social Subjects have just celebrated Cross Cutting themes week where lessons are designed to enhance Numeracy, Literacy and Health and well being skills across lessons. Pupils were fully engaged throughout the various lessons with evidence now on display in Social Subjects and on our twitter page @social_sahs.

France / Belgium Social Subjects Trip
A group of S5 pupils headed to France Monday morning for the Senior History trip. Pupils will spend time visiting various battlefields in France before heading on a tour of Paris and finishing up on Friday in Disneyland. Safe trip to all pupils and teachers Miss Hay, Mrs Carruthers, Miss Donnelly, Mr. Gilmour and Mr Boyle.

Malawi Trip

North Lanarkshire International Conference
Well done to our team from Social Subjects who represented our school in the North Lanarkshire International Conference during the week. Pupils from St. Andrew’s were representing Greece with Ciaran McMurray delivering an outstanding speech. Well done to all pupils involved.

Junior Award Ceremony
Our Annual Junior Award Ceremony was held last Wednesday in our school. We celebrated the achievements of our wonderful pupils throughout the night and the success of each pupil from S1 – S3. The theme on the night was “Hall of Fame” and thanks to Miss Taggart and the Celebrating Success committee for organising the event.

Junior Award Ceremony Catering Team
Well done to 4D Travel and Tourism class who provided excellent customer service at the Junior Award Ceremony. Pupils worked hard preparing food, helping to decorate the social area and distributing food later on in the night. Holocaust Survivor visits SAHS
Please follow the below link to read about our recent school visit from Harry Bibring. Over 200 Senior pupils crammed into the our assembly hall to listen as 90-year-old Harry Bibring informed and educated pupils of his ordeal as a young boy in the 1930s.

Our annual Junior Award Ceremony will take place Wednesday 15h June for S1 – S3 pupils. We are looking forward to celebrating the success of our wonderful pupils throughout the night.

Malawi Trip for Senior Pupils
We as a school community are very proud of Emily Bryce, Emma McBeth, Jonathan McGinty, Ben Allardyce, Amy Ward and Sophia Warren who are currently in Malawi. Also to Miss Banks and Mr Cassidy who are travelling with the pupils. These pupils have worked hard all year round fundraising for event prior to travelling to Malawi.

County Sports Day Success
Our athletes had another very successful first day at this years County Sports. Our athletes came home with a total of 26 medals on the first day of the Athletics Championship held at Wishaw Sports Centre. The 2nd day of competition takes place on Wednesday the 8th where we will see our senior athletes competing along with the S1-3 finalists.

Caritas Award
Congratulations to our S6 Caritas group who were in recently awarded their Caritas Award in Glasgow. 25 of our departing S6 students achieved the Pope Benedict Caritas medal this year and were recognised at yesterday’s award ceremony in Glasgow. We are extremely grateful to Mr. Cassidy and the RE Department, along with the clergy of the local Deanery, for supporting the young people on their spiritual journey
Annual Sports Awards @ SAHS
The Annual Sports Award will take place Tuesday (31/5/16) Period 3 for all pupils involved in Sports Day. Pupils are reminded to register for Period 3 and then come along to the Games Hall. S4 pupils involved are reminded to show tickets to teachers.
S1 Tinto Hill Climb for St. Andrew’s Hospice
Well done to all our wonderful S1 pupils who climbed Tinto hill yesterday for St. Andrew’s Hospice. Pupils and staff had a fantastic day and would like to thank St. Andrew’s Hospice for letting us be part of a fantastic event and to the supervising teachers who helped out on the day. Pupils are reminded to get sponsorship forms in by Tuesday 31st May. We will update you on the amount raised by our S1 pupils on the final count.
S1 French Café
Well done to all our S1 pupils who were recently involved with the French Café in Modern Languages. Pupils were able to try croissants, French cheese and various other items different things for the first time! Pupils had to ‘order’ in French to make it more difficult. Well done to all involved.

Sports Day @ SAHS

S2 Boys Football Team
Commiserations to our S2 team who were narrowly defeated 3-2 in the Airdrie Schools Cup final against Caldervale. Scorers on the night were Chris Silvestro and Cole Starrs. The man of the match was awarded to Cole Starrs. Well done to all the boys involved and Mr. Hewitt.

Our annual Sports day will take place Tuesday 16/05/16 for S1 – S3 pupils. Sports day is a fantastic day ran by the PE department with pupils and teachers are looking forward to the event.

IDL – Journey to Fitness @ SAHS
An Interdisciplinary learning task for S2 called ‘Journey to fitness’ was recently celebrated in SAHS. This IDL task involved various departments from across the school.
Well done to the three wonderful S2 girls Mairi Brennan, Lucy Allan and Miraid Gibbons, who have worked really hard to create a presentation which celebrates the success of all S2 who took part in this year’s Journey To Fitness. The girls presented in front of their whole year group in assembly and did an excellent job.

S2 Boys Football Team
St. Andrew’s High school would like to wish our S2 Boys team the best of luck in the Schools Cup final this coming Monday (16/05/16) at Airdrie’s stadium, kick off 7.00pm. If anyone can come along to add their support it would be greatly appreciated.
Lanarkshire Schools – Football Success
Well done to Joshua Burke, Jordan Armstrong, Matthew Grant & Zack Brown who were part of the Lanarkshire Schools team crowned Scottish Schools Regional Cup winners.
St. Andrew’s are delighted to have four students involved with the successful Lanarkshire Schools team who won the Cup.

Netball Success @ SAHS
Congratulations to the S1, S2 and S3/4 Netball teams who were crowned League Champions, another magnificent achievement for the fantastic Netball Teams at St. Andrew’s High School. Congratulations also to S1 Player of the Year Aiva Martin, S2 Player of the Year Alana Wilkie and S3/4 Player of the Year Alana Carey for consistency & top performances throughout the year. S1 Geography – Build a Landmark Challenge
Congratulations to our Geography pupils who recently completed the “Build a Landmark” challenge in school.
