Hello everyone. Thanks for visiting our blog. Here’s what we have been up to over the last few weeks.

In Literacy we have been continuing to work on phonemes and have been enjoying partner work with magnetic boards where one of us gets to be the teacher! In our writing lessons we have been learning how to write instructions. We especially loved making jelly and actually making it really helped us when it came to writing our instructions. Next week we are going to plant a sunflower seed and will write instructions based on what we did. On Friday we were learning about nouns. We are learning that nouns are naming words and that they name people, animals, places and things.

In Maths we have been learning about money. We have been working on coin recognition and have been ordering coins in value. It is tricky because we can’t use the size of the coin to order the coins as we are learning that some higher value coins are smaller in size than some of the smaller value coins. We have been counting quantities of money and all our activities have been through active learning and play. Our role play area is now a post office and shop which allows us to practise what we are learning in real life contexts. Topmarks is a really good website for money games. Just google ‘topmarks piggy bank’ and you will find them. We have also been exploring measure through play activities and have been having lots of fun.

Our topic is going well. We are learning about island life through the context of Katie Morag and have been further exploring our topic through our planning board play activities.

The Nursery children have been coming to visit us twice a week as part of their transition programme. We can’t believe a whole year has passed since it was us! We have been setting a great example and are looking forward to starting rehearsals for our show which we will perform for the new Primary 1 children on their induction day in June.

Next week is STEM week and we will be enjoying a variety of activities to celebrate science, technology, engineering and maths. We have a visit from Glasgow Science Centre to look forward to on Monday and on Friday Conor’s mum will be coming in to work with us.

We are also looking forward to Chris’s mum coming in on Wednesday. She is a musician and is coming to teach us about her music!

The last term in Primary 1 is always a quick and busy one and we are practising for being big Primary 2 children!

Thanks for reading. See you next time!
