Spring break was lots of fun, but we are now back into the swing of things and eager to get on with our work.

In numeracy P1 are continuing with a block of work on subtraction. We know when doing a take away calculation you always start with the higher number and the answer will always be less. We have been exploring different strategies to help with the calculations, using our fingers, a number line, materials or keeping the big number in our head and counting backwards.

In Literacy P1 have been learning about Phonemes, we know they make different sounds from the initial sounds. We have learned the ‘sh’ and the ‘ch’. We have been building words using our magnetic letters and spotting ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ words in our reading book. Next week we are moving onto ‘oo’.

In numeracy P2 have been looking at number patterns and sequences within 100. We have been using our 100 square to help. We are starting to spot patterns that can help us when we do our sums. Next week we will move onto connections and links between addition and subtraction.

In Literacy P2 have been learning about the silent ‘k’ and silent ‘b’ phoneme. We know that ‘k’ comes at the start of a word and ‘n’ is always the next letter and we know that ‘b’ comes at the end of a word and ‘m’ comes just before it.

We have started a new topic called Katie Morag and the two Grandmothers. We are very excited about it. Katie Morag lives on an island above a post office so we are very busy trying to recreate a post office in our classroom. We have also been exploring what it’s like to live on an island and comparing it to our life on the mainland.
