Good morning everyone, happy Monday to you all, I hope you had a lovely relaxing weekend.
This week we are going to be listening to Scottish stories and learning Scottish rhymes  because Scotland is where we live and it is Robert Burns’ day today, he was a very famous Scottish man who wrote lots of lovely poems and songs.

We will begin today with our story called The Gruffalo in Scots.

The thistle is the National emblem of Scotland and here are a couple of ways how we can make a great picture of one
You will need
Paint and paper
Bubble wrap
Wool or string or ribbon
Paint a circle of bubble wrap and use it to print onto your paper, use your wool to make the fuzzy bit at the top.
Or you can paint the palm of your hand and a little bit of your arm with green paint, paint your fingers with purple paint; place your hand on the paper and when you lift your arm you will have a great picture of a thistle.

Who fancies learning how to make some yummy potato soup? You will need the help of an adult;
You will need
25g butter
1 tbsp oil
1 large leek, finely chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3-4 carrots, chopped into small pieces
1.5 litres of chicken or vegetable stock
Salt and pepper
• Melt the butter and oil in a large pan
• Tip in the vegetables, give them a stir and season with the salt and pepper. Cook over a low heat for 10-15 minutes or until the veg starts to soften. Pour in the stock, cover and simmer gently for 1-1 ½ hours or until the vegetables are soft and the potatoes are starting to break up.
• Using a potato masher, mash everything up, but not too much-you still want some larger tattie lumps. If the soup is too thick for your liking just add some water to thin it down.
• Check the seasoning and serve with fresh bread.
I hope you think it tastes really yummy, maybe you could take a photo and put it on your learning journal.

Our rhyme today is The Selkirk Grace. Some of the words are a bit tricky because it’s a very old poem, but have a go anyway.

Here’s a little video for you to watch by the Singing Kettle when they sing a funny song all about Tatty soup.
