P4 March Blog 2019

Welcome to our class blog.  We have once again been very busy in Primary 4.  Mrs Doherty is soooo lucky to have such a hardworking and marvellous class of learners.  Here’s what we have been up to recently…

Maths

We have been working on Subtraction and we are now learning how to exchange with this.  We know how to exchange 1 ten for ten units. This kind of work involves us writing our sums out formally one underneath the other.  We have been using the diennes material to help us visualise this.

In our other maths topic we have been learning all about angles.  We are now confident in finding angles smaller and greater than a right angle.

  • Rebecca – smaller is called acute, greater to is called obtuse.
  • Melissa – there is also a straight angle.

First Holy Communion

Last week we started learning all  about our First Communion and we got home our booklets. We were all excited about this. We have learned all about the story of creation and how God created the world in 7 days.  We know how important we all are and how unique we are too.  We learned all about the story of Passover and the importance of the lamb at Passover but also Jesus as our lamb.

  • Parents/Guardians – Please help us to complete our Home Sessions at home and return the booklet in time to class the next week. Thank you.

Zoolab

We absolutely loved Zoolab.  It was the highlight of our week. Our session was about Rainforest Discovery.  Our instructor was Owen and he brought along some intersting animals for us to see and hold.  There was a snake, a snail, a rat and a tarantula.

  • Layla – There was lots of different textures on the animals.  I thought it was quite fun.
  • Arianna – I liked getting to touch the animals.
  • Emma – I enjoyed learning about how a snake squeezes its prey to death.
  • Jakub D – A snail has over 10,000 teeth – WOW WOW WOW!!

Topic

We have our very own Titanic ship in our class.  We know about the different classes of passengers aboard the Titanic.  The Captain is called Edward J. Smith.  The big Luxury liner company is called the White Star liner.  Finally we learned all about the building of the Titanic and the different sections on the ship!  We now have our own creative writing files that we just love using!  Did you know the Titanic is as big as 3 football pitches!

Language

We are now onto our next block of writing which is RECOUNT.  We are learning to retell events.  We have also been learning about the importance of Adverbs – we know that adverbs describe verbs.  For example…

  • Olivia and Noah were running quickly in the corridor.

Health & Well Being

We are continuing to learn and develop life saving skills.  So far in Hear Start we have learned about assessing a casualty and getting help, Recovery position and more recently what to do if someone is seriously bleeding.  We know that an ordinary day can become an extraordinary day when we put these life saving skills into practise.

STAR PUPIL: Well done to Abi-Rose! Working hard and participating in class.  Setting an excellent example to others.
