Hello everyone. Here is all the latest news from Primary 1.

In Maths we have been exploring what happens when we take away. We know that when we take away 0 the quantity stays the same and when we take away 1 we go to the number before. We know that take away is the opposite of add. We have been enjoying the ‘bus stop’ game which is helping to reinforce the direction we move on a number track when we take away. Next we will be exploring what happens when we take away 2 and will be exploring the links between addition and subtraction. We are continuing with our work on time and are comparing analogue and digital times.

In Literacy we have been working on the ‘sh’ phoneme. We came up with lots of words with this sound and enjoyed partner work where we had to read ‘sh’ words for our partner to make on their magnetic board. Next we will work on the ‘th’ phoneme. We have also been setting targets for our writing and doing some self assessment on how well we have achieved our targets. These might be to use finger spaces, full stops, capital letters or to sit our writing on the line. Mrs McCann can already see a difference in our work.

In Health we have been talking about the emergency services. Ask us to name them and how to get help in an emergency. In PE we have moved on to ball skills and are enjoying using the new PE equipment.

We have been exploring ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs’ through our play activities. Everyone is very excited about taking our class dragon home for a night. Who will take Elliot home next?

On Tuesday Zoolab came to visit us. We had a great time learning about the animals and got to see a giant snail, a tortoise, a tarantula and a snake. We even got to touch or hold some of them. We were very brave!

We enjoyed pancakes on Pancake Tuesday, received our ashes on Ash Wednesday and have made Lenten promises. We are looking forward to the Easter Bonnet Parade on the last day of term and of course to some time off school after a very hard working term!
