Parent Council

THE PARENT COUNCIL

Our Parent Council Comprises of:

Parent Council Chair: Carrie Strachan (P2, P4 & P7 parent)

Secretary: Rotational

Members: Alison Breingan (P4 parent), Stewart Derrick (P1, P5 & P7 Parent), Laura Young (P6 parent), Rhona Stillie Brown (P7 parent), Alissa Kaufmann (P4 parent), Nicola Breen Patrick (P5 parent), Jennifer Molloy (P4 & P6 parent), Sarah Curran (P3 & P6 parent), Kimberly Wilson (P2 parent).

Staff: Miss McCarthy (HT), Mr John Paterson (PT)

The Head Teacher has a right and duty to attend all meetings of the Parent Council and acts as professional advisor to the Parent Council. Parent Council meetings are open to members of the public.

Parent Council members:

· The council will be made up of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 current parents.

· Each parent will be selected for a period of 1 year, however they may put themselves forward for reselection if desired.

· Any parent of a child within the school can volunteer to be a member of the Parent Council.

The Parent Council’s rights and duties include:

· supporting the work of the school

· representing the views of parents

· consulting with parents and reporting back to the Parent Forum on matters of interest

· promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and the wider community

· taking part in the selection of senior promoted staff

· receiving reports from the Head Teacher and Education Authority and

· receiving an annual budget for administration, training and other expenses.

· improving home school partnership and facilitating parental involvement

Members of Parent Councils, on a voluntary basis, may also have an advisory role in decisions on placing requests by parents in respect of those situations where the number of placing requests for a particular school or for a particular stage in a particular school exceeds the number of places available.
