Generosity and Christmas

It is hard to believe, but we are now in our final week before the Christmas holiday. While this time of the year can be a great time for families to engage in quality experiences together, we all know that for some this can be a difficult and lonely time. The school has been able to support a number of families to be able to enjoy the forthcoming festive period. This has been down to the generosity of the parent council and the wider parent body who have supported them in raising the funds that have been used for this venture.

For Parents/Carers to use the online payment service Ipayimpact, you need to register with MyAccount, the simple and secure sign-in service for accessing online public services in Scotland. This service provides people living in Scotland with the ability to set up an online account and use it – using a single user name and password to access a growing range of online public services.

The Student Award Agency Scotland (SAAS) handles all the fees, funding and loan situation for pupils going into further/higher education. Admittedly, this can seem like a bit of a minefield, meeting application deadlines, completing paperwork etc. SAAS are running an event to try to simplify this process for parents/carers.

These free sessions will run from the 4^th to the 13^th December and can booked here https://buytickets.at/studentawardsagencyscotlan/1065324

These sessions will:

• explain the funding available from SAAS for those planning to undertake higher education courses (HNC/HND/Degree courses); and
• provide information on the repayment of student loans; and
• provide advice on how and when to submit a funding application to SAAS; and
• have a funding awareness advisor available who can answer any questions that attendees may have.

If your young person is planning to go to college or university at the end of this school session, then this is definitely for you.”

We have been given 36 fully funded places for pupils to go to Outward Bound again this year. This will run from Monday 25^th to Friday 29^th March 2024 (this includes Good Friday that the school is closed as part of the school Easter holidays). In order for a pupil to show an interest in this, they will need to complete an online application form. This can be found by using the link below. If your young person wishes to be considered, they should complete this ASAP.

Option Choices webinar for parents and carers of S2 and S3 pupils, Thursday 7 December 6.30pm 

Skills Development Scotland careers advisers are hosting a webinar for parents and carers of S2 and S3 pupils on 7 Dec at 6:30pm to discuss option choices and the support and resources available from Skills Development Scotland to support both young people and parents and carers at this time.
