38th annual Braidhurst High School show: Sunshine on Leith

Rehearsals are now in full swing with only three weeks to go until the 38th annual Braidhurst High School show.

This year’s show “Sunshine on Leith” (featuring the songs of The Proclaimers) follows the highs and lows of Ally and his friend Davy as they return home to Leith from the army. Families, friendships and life are not all plain sailing in this funny and moving story about love and life.

Writer Stephen Greenhorn is a hugely successful playwright and screenwriter whose many credits include Dr Who, River City & Passing Places. The Proclaimers have had huge success across the globe with hits such as I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), I’m on My Way and Letter From America.

The cast features pupils from every year group in the school. With some familiar faces that have been performing on stage for the past six years and a bunch of new recruits, this year’s show is guaranteed to be an action packed night of fun for all the family.

This years show will take place in the assembly hall on Wed 15th & Thu 16th June 2015 at 7:30pm

Tickets are priced £4 for Adults, £2 for children & £10 for Family ticket (2 Adults + 2 Children) and are available from Mrs Hunter in the Maths Dept.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Mrs Anne-Marie Keatings celebrated her 60th birthday last Friday. Mrs Keatings has been a teacher of French and German for the past 14 years in Braidhurst, having formerly taught in Dalziel High School.

A surprise party was organised for her in the school Hub at lunchtime by her colleagues in the Modern Languages Department, and she was joined by many other members of staff from across the school.

Staff sang a birthday song composed especially to mark the occasion and then enjoyed some party food including, of course, a slice of her delicious birthday cake!

Mrs Keatings is a very popular and respected member of staff and everyone enjoyed making her special day so much fun!

Theatre Trip

36 pupils recently visited the Playhouse in Edinburgh to watch a performance of the International smash hit musical comedy… Hairspray

Hairspray takes place during the swinging sixties in Baltimore, Maryland. Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and an even bigger dream: to dance her way onto national TV, and into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin. Tracy’s audition makes her a local star and soon she is using her new-found fame to fight for integration. But can she win equality and Link’s heart without denting her ‘do?

All the pupils had a fabulous evening out watching this professional musical production, many of whom are preparing for their roles in this years school show – Sunshine on Leith.

Tickets for our school production will soon be on sale so keep your eyes posted on the website for more details.
