Future Friday Provision – Off Road Bikes

Our ‘Future Friday’ provision for pupils on a Friday afternoon recently featured an off-road bike tutorial from Lanarkshire Police which was organised by our campus police officer PC Boyle. Pupils enjoyed finding out about the bikes and how police officers are trained to handle off-road driving. Thank you to Lanarkshire Police for delivering this very interesting session.

Gary Dempsey Visit

Recently our developing the young workforce team invited Gary Dempsey from the @GlasgoPodcast into school to discuss with an audience of senior pupils how many people from Central Scotland have turned their ideas and dreams into successful and lucrative businesses. The radio presenter Ali Wright, Chris Shaw who is the founder of Box Fresh and actor and agent Reece Donnelly also attended the event. Our senior pupils thoroughly enjoyed a Q&A session which offered lots of helpful advice.

World Kindness Day

Another Reading Schools initiative, organised by our group of pupil literacy ambassadors, is a calendar of literacy themed celebrations which we are running throughout the school year. This month featured World Kindness Day and staff and pupils were asked to recommend their favourite book as an act of kindness to others. A huge thank you to the staff and literacy ambassadors for taking part. Pictured are some of our brilliant literacy ambassadors with their book recommendation which are now displayed on the library bookshelves to help others pick their next book.

Reading Schools P7 Visits

Over the school year 2021-22 Braidhurst will be working towards Scottish Book Trust Reading Schools accreditation. Part of this work has included exploring with the P7 classes of our cluster primary schools the importance of why we should read for pleasure.

These sessions were led by the school librarian Mrs Scott, our Transition Primary Teacher Mrs Anderson and our Faculty Head of English and Literacy Mrs Paterson. Our final P7 visit recently took place and each class will be scheduled to take part in a second visit at the start of 2022.
