BOOK WEEK SCOTLAND

The school library recently celebrated Book Week Scotland 2019 by inviting pupils and staff to a reading lunch in the library on Wednesday 20th November. The lunch was an opportunity for staff and pupils to share their love of personal reading whilst taking some well-deserved rest and relaxation in the middle of a hectic school day. Staff were also invited to recommend a book of their choice to pupils in an attempt to communicate the message that everybody reads, not just the librarian. Staff members recommended a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction titles and were given a poster outlining their choice which they were asked to display in their classroom or office for pupils to see.

READ TO SUCCEED BOOK GIFTING

The council’s ‘Read to Succeed’ initiative recently organised a fantastic book-gifting event for all S1 pupils. Glowworm Books visited the school on Friday 15th November and all first year pupils were invited to the library to choose their own free book from a list of selected titles, including ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’, novels by Jacqueline Wilson and Cathy Macphail. Pupils were impressed by the variety of choice on offer and are now patiently waiting on their book being delivered to school.

INTER-HOUSE AFTERNOON

On Friday 15th November, the school hosted an afternoon of inter-house events for pupils to enjoy and hopefully earn points for their house group. Activities on offer included: Minute to Win It, table tennis, a bake off, computer games, domino challenge, music quiz, dodge ball, and football. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon.

PANCAKE FOR PUDSEY

The Hub held the annual ‘Pancakes for Pudsey’ event on Thursday 14th November.  Pupils organised a lunchtime bake sale where lots of treats, such as home-baking, popcorn and ice-cream, were sold, with all proceeds going to Children in Need.  A grand total of £463 was raised for this very worthy cause.

S4 Work Experience

S4 pupils have been given the following options for Work Experience:

1. February 10th to 15th. This option is during the February weekend and will therefore have less impact on teaching & learning as pupils will miss less timetabled classes.

2. During Study Leave (the entire month of May). Pupils can decide to undertake work experience prior, during or after exams depending on their timetable. Click here for 2020 SQA exam calendar.

3. If you are sitting less than one National 5, you will not be entitled to study leave but instead will be part of our S4 “Skills for Life and Work Programme”. This takes place in Forgewood Community Centre over 5 days, where pupils gain qualifications and are assisted into a placement.
