Resilience

What is resilience? It is the ability to keep going when things don’t go as we expect, and to have a good way of talking about and thinking about our feelings.

Having resilience means we can look after ourselves and prepare ourselves for whatever might happen.

Failing helps us to learn what doesn’t work

Try ..Fail.. Try Again.. Success

In our live session today we are going to look at the resilience alphabet and choose one of the protective factors this week to work on!

Literacy

Writing

Continuing on from last week we are going to use the same slow writing criteria to write a quality paragraph describing the setting outside the window in your house or in your local area.  You must follow the slow writing success criteria in slide 3 of the power-point to write your descriptive paragraph. Click on the link below to remind yourself of the criteria on slide 3 of the powerpoint!

Friday 11th September 2020

Today we have just finished doing our first writing baseline of 2020. We wrote about ‘My Best Day Ever’. Also today we have just watched our assembly online and Mrs Robertson was teaching us all about ‘Keeping Safe’. This was really helpful as it gave us good advice about staying safe online.

In our Egyptians topic we have been learning about hieroglyphics and we wrote our name using the symbols on cardboard and gave it a sand effect!

In Literacy we have been learning about homophones, in particular when to use there, their and they’re. Also we have been developing our comprehension skills using our reading books. We have also started working on our group spelling words in class.

In Maths the Circles have been learning about negative numbers, divisibility (2,4,5) and multiplying by 100 and 1000! Squares and Triangles have been adding on in 50s and 25s and learning startegies for adding and subtracting. It has been a really busy week in Maths and we have all worked really hard!

Also our online homework started this week. We had a few ‘teething ‘problems at the beginning however hopefully we should be all set for next week!

In Music with Mrs McDougal we were listening to classic tunes and then listening to the remixes. We discussed if we liked the remix and gave Mrs McDougal a reason why. We also did Just Dance.

We have a new boy in our class and  his name is Kai.  He has already made loads of friends and it feels like he has been here for ever!

Every morning we try to do a little bit of French.  We have been learning our colours months, date, days, numbers and asking how you are and what your name is.   We all feel we are really making good progress with our French….C’est fantastique!!!

Oh and how could we forget Kai and Alex found a beetle and lunchtime in the playground. They showed it to the class when we went in and told us some very interesting information about beetles they had found out!

We hope you enjoyed reading our news.

Homework Information

Hi everyone and welcome to the Primary 5 homework information page. You should already have received homework guidelines from the school, however if you would like another look to remind yourself of these please click on the link below.

Whitehirst Park Primary School Homework 2020-21 (1)

For Health and Safety reasons all homework will now be issued online in the class blog. The school will primarily be using 3 platforms to deliver this homework. Education City, Bug Club and Sum Dog.

  • Bug Club and Education City for Literacy
  • Sum Dog and Education City for Numeracy and Maths
  • Education City for Science

In addition from time to time your child may be asked to complete an IDL task online relating to our class topic.  In Term 1 our topic is Ancient Egypt.

On Monday 7th September your child will be bringing home a pink card with the login details and password information required for Bug Club, Sum Dog and Education City.  In addition, details of your child’s Glow log in details and the class blog address is included in the pink card.

Homework will be set on the Monday and should be completed by the Friday of each week. There will be a separate menu on the blog homepage called Homework Tasks and each week I will post the homework to be completed.

This is a fantastic opportunity for us all to continue to embrace technology to enhance your child’s learning.  Remember we are here to support and help with online learning so if you need any support with accessing the technology please contact myself Mrs Manning as a first ‘port of call’.
