Literacy

Primary 5 have had a really busy week!

As it is World Book Week next week we have started a new class novel called ‘The Graveyard Book’ by Neil Gaiman. We will also still be reading our Bug Club and Rigby Starr core readers. Everyone is loving the story and the characters in the book. We have just finished chapter 1 and worked in our table groups to create a concept map. We summarised the characters, settings and the plot and the art work was a visualisation of the events in Chapter 1.

Everyone enjoyed and worked really hard on this task and our posters show the fantastic work they were able to create!

Primary 5 also had their Term 1 spelling assessment and all the reading groups started a new core reading book this week. As well as reading in our groups we completed comprehension and reading skill tasks.

For our writing this week we learned how to use a poster rubric to help us create a good quality poster. As it was Dyslexia awareness week we decided to create a poster using our rubric showing what we had learned about dyslexia.

Numeracy

In Maths Primary 5 have been learning how to add and subtract money. At the start of the week we were doing formal calculations to work out the problems. Today we moved on to using a calculator.

Body Topic

In our body topic we have moved on from learning about about the skeleton to learning about joints and muscles.
