Autumn Wreaths

We gathered leaves and berries in the school grounds for our Autumn wreath. We then arranged these and attached to the wreath.

Egyptian Portraits

We created a papryus effect with tea bags and water for our Egyptian self portraits.

In this final week before the October holiday break Primary 5 have been very busy!

Ancient Egypt Topic

We have been learning all about the different Gods and Godesses and how important they were to the Egyptians. The Gods were used by the Egyptians to make sense of things happening in their lives. For example when night time came Ancient Egyptians believe the God Ra was responsible. (see below)

NAME: Ra

GOD OF: the sun

Ra was the most important god to all the Egyptians.

It was believed that he was swallowed by Nut the sky goddess every night and born again in the morning.

The Egyptians also believed that Ra travelled through the underworld at night, where he appeared as a man with the head of a ram!

Our class had lots of great discussion about the different Gods!

We are also creating Egyptian portrait pictures.  We used wet tea bags to create a papryus effect paper and we will attach a profile picture of our faces on to the papryus!

Numeracy and Maths

In Maths we have been doing multiplication using the strategy of partioning the number.

For example 346 x 4 (300 x 4)+ (40 x 4)+ (6×4) = 1384

Art

We made Autumn wreathes. We collected leaves , berries in the school grounds and created an autumn wreath.

Literacy

Some of the children in Dahl and Morpurgo group had a reading assessment test.

For our morning challenge we have been focussing on writing sentences with ly openers and connectives. Also we have been writing descriptive sentences about a spooky witch images. We have been trying to use similes and alliteration as a descriptive tool!  Here are some of our sentences.

The witches face was green and wrinkly like a frogs skin.  Finlay McLaughlin

The witches clothes were as dark and shadowy as moonlight. Isla Preston

The witch had red hair like a burning fire and blue eyes that shone like sapphires Macy McGregor

Suddenly the wicked witch shot across the sky like a lightening bolt. Emily MacKay

The original ideas came  from named pupils however the sentences were up-levelled by the class.

We hope to use these sentences in our Halloween stories when we come back from our October holiday.

Our PATHS pupil was the lovely Kyla Ronald. She received some lovely comments from her classmates.
IN French we have been learning the french names for animals.

Have a lovely break everyone and we will see you after the holidays!!
