Egyptians
We learned about their Gods and Goddesses. Some of them are called: Ra (God of the Sun), Osiris (God of the Dead), Nut (Goddess of the Sky), Horus (God of Egyptians), Geb (God of the Earth), Thoth (God of Wisdom and Writing), Isis (Mother of Horus, queen of the Goddesses), Sekhmet (Goddess of War) and Anubis (God of Death and embalming).
Heiroglyphics – Ancient egyptian writing.
We have been practicing how to read and write hieroglyphics.
Billy shared an egyptian note (money) and Arran shared a ring with hieroglyphics.
Questions for next week: What language did they speak? Stories of the Gods (Anubis embalming Osiris, Hath killing Osiris). What is embalming? DId people get banished? How were the Gods named?
Literacy
Reading assessments – we completed these with Mrs Rowan to help Mrs Munro sort out our reading groups.
Handwriting – we practiced our letter formation and letter sizes.
Spelling – we learned how to complete different spelling activities independently. We did dictionary skills, sentences and uplevelling and active spelling. Here are some of our active jobs we have done this week.
We have been learning about procedural writing with Mrs Dickens. We have looked at different instructions and what we need to write them.
The Witches
We have been reading ‘The Witches’ by Roald Dahl. We have been making missing posters for children who have gone missing in the book. Here are some of our posters:
Here are some things that we know about REAL WITCHES:
- They don’t have wands, they use their fingers.
- They are ordinary – they look ordinary, they live in ordinary houses and wear ordinary clothes.
- They hate children!
- They are always disguised as a woman.
- They are bald however they wear a first class wig.
- They have square feet and no toes although they wear pointy shoes to hide them.
- They have blue spit and use it as ink.
- They have long claws and will always be seen wearing gloves, even in the summer.
- They have big nostrils to smell out children.
- Their eyes change colour and look to have fire and ice in them.
We used what we learned to make posters and leaflets to warn other people about Real Witches!
We also looked at Grandmamma this week and wrote about some of her character features. She is very different to our Grandmothers.
Numeracy
We have been working on our jotter layout and know that this is very important to keep our jotters looking lovely and easy to read.
Place Value – We have been working on place value this week. We have been looking at 3 digit numbers all the way up to 6 digit numbers. We use this to help us in class.
We split into our maths groups and all had a go at learning new topics, they were:
Negative numbers
Counting in 11s
Adding and subtracting 10 and 100 years.
We also did a time assessment with Mrs Dickens as she will be working on this with us over this term.
Other
We finished off our class charter. Our classroom theme is Rainbows so we made our own rainbows. We all thought about a rule we think everyone in the class should follow and we thought about which of our rights were most important to us. These are all included in our charter.
We have been playing murder mystery/wink murder when we have been spending time outside. This has been a good team game.
With Mrs Dickens we finished our feathers for a whole school display, we can’t wait to see it when it is finished.
We have been watching Newsround each day to keep up to date with current affairs. We have been using this time to help us take notes on important information and share what we have learned with the class.
